Mini Cheesy French Loaves image

These little loaves look so cute in a gift basket and taste so yummy. When I make them for gifts, I have to make sure I include my husband on my gift list!

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 package(s) active dry yeast (1/4 ounce)
1 1/4 cup(s) warm water (110° to 115°)
2 tablespoon(s) sugar
1 teaspoon(s) garlic powder
1 teaspoon(s) salt
1 teaspoon(s) italian seasoning
1/2 cup(s) parmesan cheese
3 to 3 1/2 cup(s) all purpose flour
- melted butter

Steps:

  • In a bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Add the sugar, seasonings, cheese, and 2 cups flour; beat until smooth. Add enough of the remaining flour to form a soft dough. Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes.
  • Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
  • Punch down; divide in half. Roll each half into a 15 x 10 inch rectangle. Roll up from long side; seal well. Cut each into three 5 inch loaves; seal ends. Place seam side down on a greased baking sheet. Brush loaves with water. Cover with plastic wrap which has been coated with cooking spray. Let rise until nearly double in size about 30 minutes.
  • With a very sharp knife, make three shallow diagonal cuts across the top. Bake at 400° for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden. Remove from pan; cool on a wire rack and brush with the melted butter.
  • Note: The prep time includes the rising time.
