1 stick McCormick® Cinnamon Sticks broken in half
2 McCormick® Cloves, Whole
2 McCormick® Allspice, Whole
2 cups apple cider
1/4 tsp McCormick® Pure Vanilla Extract

Steps:

  • Place spices in center of a piece of cheesecloth. Tie tightly with long piece of string.
  • Place spice sachet in small saucepan. Add apple cider. Simmer over medium heat 10 to 15 minutes or until fragrant. Stir in vanilla. Discard spice sachet. Serve warm.

3 ounces cinnamon sticks
6 whole nutmeg
1/3 cup dried orange peel (chopped)
1/3 cup dried lemon peel (chopped)
1/4 cup allspice berries
1/4 cup whole cloves
2 tablespoons crystallized ginger (finely chopped)
14 pieces of double-layer cheesecloth (cut into 5-inch squares)
14 (10-inch) lengths of white string

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • Place the cinnamon sticks and nutmeg in a heavy-duty freezer bag, press the air out, and seal.
  • Pound the spices with the bottom of a rolling pin, small heavy skillet, or kitchen mallet to break them into small pieces.
  • Place the crushed spices in a bowl and stir in the orange peel, lemon peel, allspice, cloves, and crystallized ginger .
  • Place about 2 tablespoons of the spice mixture in the center of each 5-inch square of double-layer cheesecloth . Alternatively, you can use empty single-serve tea filter bags.
  • Tie the cloth securely with string and use it to prepare mulled cider or wine.

1 small lemon
2 cinnamon sticks cinnamon sticks, crushed
1 tablespoon whole allspice berries
1 tablespoon whole cloves
½ tablespoon cardamom pods

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 200 degrees F (95 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Zest and peel orange and lemon. Cut peels into thinnest strips possible. Distribute zest and peels evenly on the prepared baking sheet.

A warm, delicious drink perfect for those cold winter nights or after an afternoon of skating or tobogganing. And for those looking to really spice things up, add a shot of spiced rum!

4 cloves
4 allspice berries
4 peppercorns
2 cinnamon sticks broken into pieces
1/2 tbsp dried orange peel
2 cardamom pods
2 star anise pods
1/2 tsp candied or crystalized ginger
Also Needed
Cheesecloth 6"x6" square
Bakers' string

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, mix all ingredients well.
  • Place all ingredients in the center of a piece of cheesecloth.
  • Bring corners of cheesecloth together and tie with bakers' string.
  • To make Mulled Cider
  • Pour 1 to 2 quarts (litres) of apple juice or cider into a large pot or crockpot.
  • Add spice sachet.
  • Let simmer (not boil) for a minimum of 15 minutes. The longer it steeps the more flavor!

2 whole allspice
1 bay leaf
3 quarts apple cider or apple juice
1/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 tablespoon grated orange zest
2 tablespoons brown sugar
Dash salt
1 to 1-1/2 cups brandy, optional

Steps:

  • Place the cinnamon stick, cloves, allspice and bay leaf on a double thickness of cheesecloth; bring up corners of cloth and tie with kitchen string to form a bag. , In a large saucepan, combine the apple cider, juices, orange zest, brown sugar, salt and spice bag. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer mixture for 30 minutes to blend flavors. Discard spice bag. Strain cider mixture and stir in brandy if desired. Serve immediately.
