These originated in Maine in 1902 at Amato's. They're now franchised throughout New England. I worked for Amato's for about 5 years and made plenty of them. 1 long soft sub roll
3 slice white american cheese
2 slice boiled ham
1 handful, chopped yellow onion
6 slice sour pickle spears
1 tomato, sliced
4 slice green pepper
2 greek olives, sliced
1 Tbsp vegetable oil
1 tsp olive oil

Steps:

  • 1. Slice the roll, and add the ingredients in the order listed. Mix the oils together and sprinkle over the sandwich. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve at room temperature.
