SUE'S APPLE CRISP image

6-8 apples (more if using a large pan)
1/4 Cup orange or lemon juice
1/4 Cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Topping:
3/4 to 1 Cup flour
1 Cup sugar
1 stick melted butter
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Steps:

  • Prepare the apples: Peel, core and slice the apples. Mound into 9 or 10" pie pan. Mix in the orange or lemon juice. In a small bowl stir together the 1/4 Cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg. Sprinkle on top of the apples. Prepare the topping: In a medium bowl, mix together the 3/4 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg. Stir in the melted butter. If the mixture is too sticky, add some of the remaining flour. Crumble on top of the apples. Bake at 375 for 45 minutes, or until topping is browned and apples are tender
