Southern Style Green Beans image

This is a recipe for canned green beans that I just love because it is delicious and has olive oil instead of bacon in it. It makes green beans have that just picked flavor! It definitely is a favorite at church dinners!

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 #10 can of blue lake style green beans, drained
1 large sweet onion, sliced
1 1/2 tsp orrington farms chicken base
1 Tbsp white vinegar
salt and pepper to taste
1/2 tsp sugar
1/2 can(s) #10 can of water
1/2 c olive oil

Steps:

  • 1. Drain green beans and set aside. Place oil in bottom of pot and heat. Add sliced onions and cook until transparent. Add drained green beans and half a can of water. Cover pot and bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer for a few minutes.
  • 2. Add salt, pepper, and sugar. Mix well. Continue to simmer. Add chicken base. (Use Chicken Boullion if you don't have chicken base.)
  • 3. Simmer until beans are tender. Remove pot cover and add white vinegar. Cook beans down, letting most of water evaporate. Taste and adjust salt, pepper, sugar, and white vinegar according to taste.
