This is a recipe that I adapted from a recipe in " Food That Really Schmecks" by Edna Staebler. These are cookies that both keep and travel well.

Time 22m

Yield 30 cookies, 30 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 3/4 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon clove
1 3/4 cups rolled oats
1 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped almonds
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg, beaten
2 -3 tablespoons milk

Steps:

  • Sift flour, salt, baking powder, and spices. Add raisins, nuts, and oatmeal. In another bowl, cream shortening, add sugar, then egg. Add dry ingredients alternating with the milk. You may need a little more milk. The dough should be uniformly moist yet stiff. Scoop out with a small scoop onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment.
  • Bake in a 400 degree oven for about 12 minutes. These cookies do not spread, so if you want them to be flat, press them with your fingers before baking.
