REINDEER FOOD FOR SANTA'S EIGHT PALS image

Every year on Christmas Eve my granddaughter, Lucy, (who is now 14) and I make a batch of food for Santa's reindeer. Her mother started this tradition when Lucy was small. My daughter-in-law passed away in April, 2011, and this is one way we keep her memory alive. Photo by: http://www.squidoo.com/reindeer-food

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 cup(s) oatmeal, uncooked
1/2 cup(s) sunflower seeds, shelled
1/4 cup(s) colored sugar crystals
1 tablespoon(s) ice cream sprinkles
2 tablespoon(s) raisins (optional)

Steps:

  • Gather any and all children (from 2 to 90) around the kitchen table. Assemble all the ingredients.
  • Either play on radio/stereo/MP3/whatever favorite Christmas carols--or better yet, sing!
  • Combine all the ingredients in a medium sized bowl; mix well. Place mixture into plastic cups or sandwich bags, one for each child.
  • Go outside (put on a coat if it is below 55 degrees; boots, if it is snowing!) and sprinkle reindeer food on the lawn where Santa's eight friends will be sure to see it.
  • This food will fill their tummies and give them extra energy to lift off again after Santa has eaten all the milk and cookies you left for him inside.
