Fresh tomato sauce image

Yield About one and one-half cups

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 cup finely chopped onions
1 teaspoon finely minced garlic
2 cups peeled, chopped fresh tomatoes
1 bay leaf
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
Salt to taste, if desired
Freshly ground pepper to taste
1 tablespoon butter
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil

Steps:

  • Heat the oil in a saucepan and add the onions and garlic. Cook, stirring, until they are wilted.
  • Add the tomatoes, bay leaf, thyme, salt and pepper and bring to the boil. Cover and simmer about 10 minutes. Stir in the butter and basil.
