Cake mix Cinnamon Rolls image

Never thought about using or adding a cake mix to make cinnamon rolls. I will now... Picture added from an online site..for visual purposes only.

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 pkg (9 ounce) white cake mix
3 to 3 1/2 c bread flour
1 c whole wheat flour
2 pkg quick-rising yeast
1 tsp salt
2 c warm nonfat (skim) milk...120 to 130 degrees f
2 Tbsp butter, softened
1/2 c packed brown sugar
2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 1/2 c powdered sugar
2 Tbsp butter
1/2 Tbsp vanilla
4-6 tsp hot water

Steps:

  • 1. In large mixing bowl, combine cake mix, 2 cups of bread flour, whole wheat flour, yeast, salt and milk. Beat with electric mixer 3 minutes. Stir in enough additional bread flour to make a soft dough. Turn dough onto a floured surface; knead 5 minutes or until smooth. Cover; let stand 10 minutes.
  • 2. Roll dough into a 20x12 inch rectangle. spread with 2 tablespoons butter. Combine brown sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over butter. Starting on the long side, roll up dough jelly-roll style. Slice into 18 sections and place on a greased baking sheet. Cover; let rise until doubled, about 15 minutes.
  • 3. Bake at 375 for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Place on a wire rack to cool.
  • 4. Combine powdered sugar, 2 teaspoons butter, vanilla and enough hot water to make an easy to spread icing.
