WATERMELON PUNCH KEG

Watermelon Punch Keg image

Expect guests to do a double take when they see your watermelon with a tap attached -- and to come back for seconds after sampling the spiked punch concealed within.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Categories     beverage

Time 2h20m

Yield 6 to 10 servings

Number Of Ingredients 3

One 20- to 25-pound seedless watermelon
One 750-milliliter bottle rose wine
1 1/2 cups orange vodka

Steps:

  • Cut a thin slice from the bottom of the watermelon rind (but not into the flesh) so the watermelon will sit upright. With a sharp knife, carve out a circle in the top of the watermelon to make a lid, as you would when carving a jack-o'-lantern.
  • To prepare with an immersion blender: Set the watermelon in the sink (to avoid splashes). Remove the lid and insert an immersion blender into the flesh. Gently push and move the immersion blender down and around in the watermelon to puree the center. As more of the watermelon becomes pureed, move the blender to the sides to puree almost all of the flesh, leaving a thin wall of flesh lining the rind. Pour the pureed juice out of the watermelon; you should have between 6 and 7 cups.
  • To prepare with a drill: Fasten one beater from an electric hand mixer to the tip of a drill and tighten the chuck. Set the watermelon in the sink (to avoid splashes) and push the beater into the flesh. Gently push and move the beater down and around in the watermelon to puree the center. As more of the watermelon becomes pureed, move the beater to the sides to puree almost all of the flesh, leaving a thin wall of flesh lining the rind. Pour the pureed juice out of the watermelon, and strain, discarding any pulp and seeds; you should have between 6 and 7 cups of strained juice.
  • Insert a tap in the empty watermelon according to the package directions. Pour the watermelon juice, wine and vodka into the watermelon and top with the lid. Refrigerate until the watermelon and punch inside are well chilled, at least 2 hours.

BOOZY WATERMELON PIRATE SHIP PUNCH

Boozy Watermelon Pirate Ship Punch image

Provided by Amanda Gryphon

Categories     Beverages

Time 2h

Yield 10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 seedless watermelon
1 bunch mint
1/2 cup lime juice
1 1/2 cups vodka
2 cups prosecco
3 skewers

Steps:

  • Carving the watermelon: Select a ripe, oblong watermelon that has a flat bottom. Carve off the top quarter of the watermelon and set aside to use for sails.

  • For the sails, scrape out the 1/4 shell of watermelon rind down to the white portion. Cut sails from either end of this piece and thread them through skewers. Stick the skewers into the bottom of the watermelon (being careful not to poke through the bottom) and use extra pieces of rind for stability.
  • Make the punch: Add 2 cups of the reserved watermelon to a blender with mint.
  • Puree until mint is finely chopped and watermelon is frothy.
  • Strain watermelon and mint mixture through a sieve.
  • Pour 6 cups of watermelon-mint juice into large pitcher and add lime juice and vodka.
  • Pour this mixture into the carved watermelon, add large ice rounds and top with prosecco.

WATERMELON PUNCH WITH LIMONCELLO SHOTS

Watermelon Punch with Limoncello Shots image

Here's a summer twist on sake bombs. With the help of an immersion blender, watermelon gets turned into fresh juice -- the addition of vodka makes it into the ultimate adult cocktail. (No punch bowl required.)

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Categories     beverage

Time 2h20m

Yield 8 to 10 servings

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 medium seedless watermelon (about 10 pounds)
2 cups vodka
1 cup lime juice
4 kiwis
1/4 cup limoncello

Steps:

  • Cut a thin slice off one long side of the watermelon so you can stand it securely on a cutting board. Trim off about the top one-sixth of the watermelon on the opposite long side. Transfer the watermelon to a baking dish or roasting pan (to catch the juice). Carefully press an immersion blender into the flesh of the watermelon and turn on low. Puree the flesh, being careful to keep the head of the immersion blender always immersed in the juice to avoid splattering. Remove and strain the juice.
  • Pour 8 cups of the strained juice back into the watermelon, then pour the rest into an ice cube tray and freeze for serving. Mix the vodka and lime juice into the watermelon. Cover the watermelon with plastic wrap and chill until cold, about 2 hours.
  • To make the kiwi shot glasses, trim off both rounded ends of the kiwis and carefully peel off the skin using a sharp paring knife. Cut each kiwi in half and carve out the seedy centers with the paring knife, being careful not to cut all the way through. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to serve.
  • Transfer the watermelon to the table. Depending on the size of your melon, arrange 2 to 4 sets of chopsticks over the top in pairs about 1 inch apart. Arrange the kiwi shot glasses so that 2 kiwi halves are balanced on each pair of chopsticks. Pour the limoncello into the shot glasses, letting some extra pour over into the watermelon. Grab your friends and have everyone beat on the table around the watermelon until the kiwi shot glasses fall into the drink. Serve with the watermelon juice ice cubes.

WATERMELON RUM PUNCH

Watermelon Rum Punch image

Number Of Ingredients 6

1/2 cup
1 large watermelon
2 cups pineapple juice
1 cup fresh orange juice
1/2 cup fresh lime juice
1 1/2 cups rum, or more, if you like

Steps:

  • 1. Prepare the simple syrup and reserve amount needed. Store the rest in the refrigerator. Cut off the top third of the watermelon lengthwise. Scoop out all of the melon flesh, in chunks, from both pieces. Remove the seeds and discard the seeds and the top third of the shell. Put the melon flesh in a food processor or blender and purée until smooth. 2. With a large knife, cut off a thin strip of the larger hollow shell bottom so that shell will sit flat. Then, with a sharp knife, make short zig-zag cuts around the top edge of the shell to make an attractive rim. Reserve. 3. Pour the watermelon purée into a large glass container. Add the pineapple juice, orange juice, lime juice, rum, and syrup. Mix well, cover, and refrigerate until cold. Refrigerate the carved shell, too, if you have refrigerator space. Shortly before serving, pour the punch into the carved watermelon shell. Serve in punch glasses. From "1,000 Mexican Recipes." Copyright 2001 by Marge Poore.
