MARGARITA JELL-O® SHOTS

Margarita Jell-O® Shots image

I had to make hundreds of Jell-O® shots for a wedding, so I decided to have fun with them and try out some new mixes. This was my margarita-flavored shot, a bit strong but good if you want variety with your selection. If you want them more palatable, substitute water for a bit of the alcohol.

Number Of Ingredients 7

1-2 package(s) fresh strawberries, prepped **see directions**
MARGARITA MIX
1 box(es) strawberry jello
4 ounce(s) tequila
2 ounce(s) cointreau
- margarita salt for garnish
- lime triangles for garnish

Steps:

  • PREPPING THE STRAWBERRIES: Cut the bottoms of the strawberry flat to get them to stand upright. When you do so, make sure that you do not cut off so much that there is a hole at the bottom. Use a huller or apple corer to empty out the strawberry. Once the strawberries have been emptied, use a towel to pat the outside of the strawberries dry. Check each strawberry and make sure there is not a hole in the bottom before you start filling.
  • - Boil one cup of hot water in a saucepan, then add in Jell-o powder and whisk until powder is completely dissolved, about 2 minutes. Set aside. Measure out 1/4 cup of cold water and set aside.
  • - Combine tequila and Cointreau, in cocktail shaker filled with ice. Add liquour mixture to cold water and stir to combine. Then add cold liquour mixture to hot Jell-o mixture and stir to combine.
  • - Pour final Jell-o mix into strawberries and chill overnight. Dip your finger in water or use a moistened brush to wet the edge of the strawberries, dip and rotate the strawberries in salt to rim. Garnish with cut lime triangles to finish.

Time P1D

Yield 30 strawberry shooters, 30 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

30 strawberries, cut and hulled
1 (3 ounce) box of strawberry flavor Jello gelatin (make sure to use Jell-o brand, not a generic brand)
1 cup boiling water
1/4 cup cold water
4 ounces tequila, preferablably a white brand
2 ounces Cointreau liqueur (I actually substituted Trader Joe's Margarita Mix here since I didn't have any Cointreau)
sliced lime
sugar (I used sugar, I like my sweets!) or salt, for the rim (I used sugar, I like my sweets!)

Steps:

  • Cut the bottom of the strawberry just enough so it can stand up straight. Make sure you don't cut too far up or else you will create a hole in the bottom of the strawberry, and the jello will seep out. Cut the top of the strawberry straight across, and then hull out the inside using a huller or melon baller. Try not to scoop too far down or you will hit the bottom and create a hole for the jello to seep out.
  • Add the boiling water to the jello packet and stir for 2 minutes to allow sugar to dissolve.
  • Shake the Cointreau and Tequila with ice then add the cold water. Add the cold mixture to the hot mixture and stir well. Using a funnel, slowly pour the jello into the hulled strawberries. Fill all the way to the top.
  • Refrigerate the strawberries overnight.
  • Before serving, rim the top of the strawberries with salt or sugar. You can do this by dipping your finger in water than then lining the top edge of the strawberries lighly in the salt or sugar.
  • Top sith a slice of lime, and enjoy!
  • These shots do contain alcohol so don't forget to drink responsibly. :).
