GROUND BEEF POT PIE

ground beef pot pie image

Quite an unusual beef pie, made with hash browns.Source: Unknown but probably from Pillsbury

Provided by Lynnda Cloutier

Categories     Savory Pies

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 box refrigerated pie crusts, softened as directed on box
1 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped (1/2 cup)
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
3 tablespoons cornstarch
3 cups frozen southern-style diced hash brown potatoes (from 32-oz bag), thawed
3 medium carrots, sliced (1 1/2 cups)
1 jar (12 oz) beef gravy

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oven to 450°F. Make pie crusts as directed on box for Two-Crust Pie, using 9-inch glass pie plate. In 12-inch skillet, cook beef, onion, garlic salt and pepper over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until beef is thoroughly cooked; drain.
  • 2. Stir cornstarch into beef mixture until mixed. Stir in potatoes, carrots and gravy. Cook 5 to 6 minutes over medium-high heat, stirring constantly, until hot. Spoon into crust-lined pie plate. Top with second crust; seal edge and flute. Cut slits in several places in top crust; cover edge of crust with foil.
  • 3. Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until crust is golden brown. Let stand 5 minutes before serving. Use your own blend of seasoning spices, if you desire. For example, seasoned salt, Italian seasoning or grilling herbs work well to flavor meat and potato dishes like this one. To shorten prep time even more, make the filling ahead of time and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator until time to assemble and bake.

GROUND BEEF AND SAUSAGE PIE (PASTRY OR POTATO TOPPED)

Ground Beef and Sausage Pie (Pastry or Potato Topped) image

This can also be topped with cooked mashed potatoes instead of the pastry, the filling can also be made in one 10-inch deep-dish pie plate topped with pastry instead of a casserole dish. If you are topping this with mashed potatoes then bake in a shallow baking dish instead of a casserole dish. Prep time does not include preparing the pastry. This is really good!

Provided by Bamabelle1202

Categories     Savory Pies

Time 1h25m

Yield 2 cups, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 -1 1/2 lb ground chuck
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 russet potato, unpeeled, diced
1 lb frozen mixed vegetables
1 (14 1/2 ounce) can tomatoes seasoned with basil garlic & oregano
salt and pepper
1 dash Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 (12 ounce) jar heinz beef gravy, with Onions
1 (15 ounce) package refrigerated pie crusts
1 egg white, beaten

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 425 degrees. Spray 4 (2-cup) ovenproof bowls with cooking spray; place bowls on cookie sheet (line sheet with aluminum foil for easy cleanup).
  • Brown beef and onion in a large deep skillet over medium heat until done. When done, drain and return to pan.
  • Add in the teaspoons of basil, garlic powder and oregano. Then mix in the potatoes, frozen vegetables, tomatoes, gravy, salt/pepper and Worcestershire.
  • Reduce heat to medium-low, cover and simmer until the potatoes are almost tender. Stir often to prevent sticking. (The potatoes will absorb and neutralize some of the spices, so taste-test and add in more salt/pepper as needed).
  • Meanwhile, unroll the pie crusts and cut circles slightly larger than the openings on the bowls. Also cut slits in the crust to allow steam to escape.
  • When meat mixture is ready, spoon into the individual bowls and top with the little pie crust circles. Brush the pie crusts with the egg whites. If desired, you can then sprinkle extra herb on top. (Parsley/Basil/Italian Seasoning/Oregano - Something green is pretty).
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes until crusts are golden brown.
  • *If you won't be eating them all at once, simply cover the meat mixture and put in the refrigerator. Then when you are ready, put the pie crust on the bowl, brush with the egg white and bake until it is heated through and the crust is brown. Perfect to make on a Sunday and eat during the week!
  • *To make one large pie, spoon the mixture into a 2 quart casserole dish. Cover with the uncut pie crust. Bake at 425 degrees for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.

GROUND BEEF SHEPHERD'S PIE

Ground Beef Shepherd's Pie image

I grew up on this delicious comfort food - it was one of my favorite meals. Now I make it for my husband and myself! The nice thing about this recipe is you can fit it to your own likes. Instead of mixed vegatbles, you can use a can of corn, peas... or half and half! Mom always did peas and corn, I prefer mixed vegetables. Enjoy!
