CITRUS-HONEY GREEN TEA

Hubby and I try to drink green tea on a daily basis. I came up with this recipe to make it more interesting. You can use freshly squeezed orange juice instead of grapefruit juice.

1 (2 inch) piece lemon zest, cut into thin slivers
2 teaspoons boiling water
2 teaspoons green tea powder
¾ cup hot water
½ cup freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 teaspoon honey

Steps:

  • Put lemon zest into a large cup or mug. Cover with 2 teaspoons boiling water and let steep for about 3 minutes. Stir in the green tea powder and hot water. Add the grapefruit juice, lemon juice and honey. Mix well and serve.

WHISKEY AND JASMINE GREEN TEA CHILLERS

We love the combo of whiskey and jasmine in this refreshing cocktail.

Lemon slices, for garnish
Dried jasmine flowers, for garnish, optional
8 jasmine green tea bags
8 to 12 ounces Irish whiskey
1/2 cup sugar

Steps:

  • Bring 4 cups water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Add the sugar, and stir until it has dissolved. Let cool for 2 minutes. Add the tea bags, stir and let steep for 3 minutes. Remove the tea bags, and squeeze the liquid back into the pot. Transfer the tea to a container, and refrigerate until cool, about 10 minutes.
  • Fill 4 highball glasses, Collins glasses or 12-ounce mason jars with ice. Add 2 to 3 ounces of the whiskey and 8 ounces of the tea to each. Garnish with lemon slices and dried jasmine flowers if using.

ICED GREEN TEA LIMEADE

This delicious twist on the popular green tea and lemonade combo swaps out the lemons for limes. The result is a sweet, slightly tart, and refreshing drink.

4 cups water
1/2 cup granulated sugar
Zest of one lime
4 bags green tea
1/2 cup fresh lime juice (about 4 - 6 limes, depending on size/juiciness)

Steps:

  • In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, bring the water, sugar, and lime zest to a boil. Stir until sugar is dissolved (it should already be nearly dissolved by the time it comes to a boil), then remove the pan from heat.
  • Place green tea bags in hot water mixture and steep for one minute. Remove.
  • Let mixture sit for 30 minutes to cool.
  • Strain room-temperature mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a pitcher.
  • Stir in the fresh lime juice.
  • Serve over ice.

ZESTY LEMON GREEN BEANS

Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 pounds green beans, trimmed
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar reduction
Zest of 1 lemon

Steps:

  • Fill a large skillet one-quarter full with water, add 1 tablespoon salt and bring to a boil. Add the green beans, cover and simmer until bright green but still slightly hard, 3 to 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  • Heat the olive oil in the same skillet over medium-high heat. Add the garlic and saute until fragrant, 30 seconds. Add the green beans; saute for 2 minutes. Add the balsamic reduction and 1/4 teaspoon salt and pepper. Toss the beans to coat, then cook for 1 minute more. Transfer to a platter and sprinkle with the lemon zest.

2 large green apples, washed and sliced
1 ¼ teaspoons chopped fresh ginger
1 cup brewed green tea, chilled
1 cup mango sorbet or crushed ice

  • Juice the pineapple, apples, and ginger in a juice machine. Mix the juice with the tea, and stir in the mango sorbet.n
