1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
1 large apple, peeled and chopped
1 tablespoon canola oil
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup honey
1 tablespoon sesame seeds, toasted

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, saute beans and apple in oil for 3 minutes. Add walnuts; cook and stir until vegetables are crisp-tender. Stir in honey and sesame seeds; heat through.

8 slices cooked bacon, crumbled
2 Granny Smith apples - peeled, cored, and diced
1 ⅓ cups barbeque sauce
1 cup brown sugar
¼ cup raisins

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Stir pork and beans, bacon, apples, barbeque sauce, brown sugar, and raisins together in a 9x13-inch baking dish.

1/2 cup pecan halves and pieces (2 ounces)
2 1/2 pounds green beans, trimmed
5 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/3 cup shallot, finely chopped (about 2 medium)
3 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
1 teaspoon kosher salt, or to taste
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, or to taste

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F with rack in middle.
  • Spread out pecans on a rimmed sheet pan and bake in oven until pale golden on inside, about 6 to 8 minutes. Cool and coarsely chop.
  • Have ready a colander submerged in a large bowl of ice water. Cook beans in a 6- to 8-quart pot of well-salted boiling water, uncovered, until just tender, 5 to 8 minutes. Using a large slotted spoon and/or tongs, transfer beans to colander in ice water to stop cooking, then drain well and dry on towels.
  • Heat butter in a 12- to 14-inch deep heavy skillet (preferably straight-sided) over moderately high heat until foam subsides, then add shallot and cook, stirring until pale golden, 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Reduce heat to medium and stir in sugar until almost dissolved, then cook pecans, stirring, 1 minute.
  • Add green beans, kosher salt, and pepper, and sauté beans, turning them with tongs, until heated through, 2 to 4 minutes. Transfer to a platter and serve.

1 tablespoon butter
1 cup chopped pecans
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1/8 teaspoon salt
BEANS:
1/4 cup finely chopped shallots
2 tablespoons butter
2 teaspoons all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon grated orange zest
Dash cayenne pepper
1-1/2 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed
2/3 cup reduced-sodium chicken broth
1/3 cup orange juice
1 teaspoon fresh sage or 1/4 teaspoon dried sage leaves
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • In a small heavy skillet, melt butter. Add pecans; cook over medium heat until toasted, about 4 minutes. Add syrup and salt; cook and stir for 2-3 minutes or until pecans are glossy. Spread on foil to cool., Meanwhile, in a large skillet, saute shallots in butter until tender; stir in the flour, orange zest and cayenne. Add the remaining ingredients; cover and cook for 5 minutes. Uncover; cook and stir 4-5 minutes longer or until beans are crisp-tender. Transfer to a serving bowl. Sprinkle with pecans.

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place pecans on a rimmed baking sheet; toast until fragrant, 6 to 7 minutes.

2 Golden Delicious apples, cored and cut into 1/2-inch pieces
1 large shallot, sliced thin
2 pounds green beans, trimmed
2 tablespoons maple syrup
2 teaspoons minced fresh rosemary
Salt and pepper
3/4 cup pecans, toasted and chopped

Steps:

  • 1. Melt butter in 12-inch skillet over medium heat. Add apples and cook until light golden, 3 to 5 minutes. Add shallot and cook until softened, 1 minute. Add beans and increase heat to medium-high. Cook, stirring occasionally, until beans are spotty brown, 8 to 10 minutes. 2. Stir in maple syrup and 1/2 teaspoon salt, cover, and reduce heat to medium-low. Cook until beans are nearly tender, 3 to 5 minutes. Remove lid, add rosemary, and cook until liquid evaporates and beans are tender, about 1 minute. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Top beans with chopped pecans and serve.
