Hand pattied burgers with Greek seasonings topped with Tzatziki Sauce, onions, cucumber and tomato make these Greek Burgers the perfect summer dinner!

1 ½ lbs 85% lean ground beef (see Note)
½ medium yellow onion (peeled and grated)
2 cloves garlic (peeled and crushed)
2 Tbsp minced fresh parsley
1 Tbsp white wine vinegar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp dried oregano
½ tsp ground black pepper
½ tsp ground cumin
½ tsp ground coriander
¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes
⅛ tsp ground allspice
4 burger buns
¼ red onion (thinly sliced)
1 tomato (thinly sliced)
¼ English cucumber (thinly sliced)
½ c. Tzatziki Sauce (homemade or store-bought)
4 Tbsp crumbled feta cheese
¾ c. plain Greek yogurt
¼ English cucumber (grated)
1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
1 Tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
2 cloves garlic (peeled and crushed)
1 ½ tsp minced fresh dill
½ tsp salt
⅛ tsp ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat a grill to medium-high heat.
  • Mix together all ingredients for the burgers in a large bowl. Shape the mixture into 4 equal patties.
  • Cook the burger patties until they're done to your preference, about 7 to 9 minutes per side, flipping once.
  • If desired, split the buns in half and toast them (cut side down) on the grill for a couple minutes.
  • To serve, put each burger on a bun. Top each burger with a slice of red onion, a slice of tomato, a few cucumber slices, 2 tablespoons Tzatziki Sauce, and 1 tablespoon crumbled feta.
  • Stir together all ingredients in a medium bowl.
  • Serve.

1/2 cup dried lentils
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 small onion, chopped
1/2 red bell pepper, diced
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 (15 ounce) can chickpeas, rinsed and drained
1 cup fresh parsley leaves
1/2 cup kalamata olive, pitted
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 cup plain breadcrumbs
3/4 cup grated carrot
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
2 cups plain low-fat yogurt
1 medium cucumber, peeled, seeded, shredded and drained
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon lemon zest
1 teaspoon of fresh mint, chopped
1 teaspoon fresh parsley, chopped

Steps:

  • For Burger:.
  • Cook lentils according to package directions. Drain.
  • Heat oil in skillet over medium heat, add onion and bell pepper and sauté for 7 minutes. Stir in garlic.
  • Blend chickpeas, parsley, olives, eggs,cumin, coriander, salt and pepper in food processor 2 minutes or until smooth.
  • Stir chickpea mixture, bread crumbs, onion and bell pepper, and carrots into lentils.
  • Shape into 8 patties. Wrap in plastic wrap and freeze.
  • Preheat grill to high. Brush frozen patties in oil. Cook 6 minutes on each side.
  • For Sauce:.
  • Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and mix together.

1 container (6 oz) Greek Fat Free plain yogurt
1/4 cup chopped cucumber
2 tablespoons chopped red onion
1 tablespoon chopped fresh or 1 teaspoon dried dill weed
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
1 lb lean ground turkey
1 cup crumbled feta cheese (4 oz)
1/3 cup chopped red onion
1 tablespoon chopped fresh or 1 teaspoon dried dill weed
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
4 whole wheat burger buns, split
1 medium tomato, thinly sliced

Steps:

  • In small bowl, mix 1/2 cup of the yogurt and remaining sauce ingredients; refrigerate until serving.
  • Heat gas or charcoal grill. In medium bowl, mix all burger ingredients and remaining yogurt. Shape mixture into 4 patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Place patties on grill over medium heat. Cover grill; cook 8 to10 minutes, turning after 5 minutes, until meat thermometer inserted in center of patties reads 160°F. Place burgers on buns; top with tomato slices and sauce.
