1/2 cup Land O Lakes® Butter softened
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/4 cup shortening
3/4 cup molasses
1 large Land O Lakes® Egg
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
Granulated sugar

Steps:

  • Combine butter, brown sugar, shortening, molasses and egg in bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Add flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and salt; beat at low speed until well mixed.
  • Divide dough in half; wrap each half in plastic food wrap. Refrigerate 1-2 hours or until firm.
  • Heat oven to 375°F.
  • Working with one-half of dough at a time, shape dough into 1 1/2-inch balls. Roll balls in granulated sugar. Place, 2 inches apart, onto ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten balls to 2 1/2-inch diameter with bottom of glass. Bake 8-11 minutes or until set.

1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup shortening
1/2 cup molasses
2 eggs
3 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 cup water
5 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon salt
1 envelope plus 2 teaspoons unflavored gelatin
1 cup cold water
1 cup granulated sugar
2 1/4 cups powdered sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • In large bowl, mix 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar, the shortening, molasses and eggs until well blended. In small bowl, dissolve baking soda in water; stir into molasses mixture. Stir in remaining cookie ingredients until well blended. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours.
  • Heat oven to 375°F. Lightly grease cookie sheet. On floured surface, roll dough 1/4 inch thick. Cut with floured 2 3/4-inch round cutter (or cut with clean food can with both ends removed, such as rectangular-shaped pork luncheon meat can). Place about 2 inches apart on cookie sheet.
  • Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until light brown. Remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 30 minutes.
  • In 2-quart saucepan, sprinkle gelatin on cold water to soften; stir in 1 cup granulated sugar. Heat to a rolling boil; reduce heat. Simmer uncovered 10 minutes. In large bowl, place powdered sugar and hot gelatin mixture. Beat with electric mixer on medium speed about 2 minutes or until foamy. Add vanilla, baking powder and salt; beat on high speed 12 to 15 minutes or until soft peaks form. Frost bottoms of cookies with frosting. Let stand until frosting is dry, 2 to 3 hours, before storing.

2 sticks butter, softened
¾ cup Grandma's® Original Molasses
1 egg
1 teaspoon Spice Islands® Pure Vanilla Extract
3 cups flour, plus more for dusting
1 teaspoon Clabber Girl® Baking Soda
1 teaspoon Clabber Girl® Baking Powder
1 teaspoon Spice Islands® Ground Nutmeg
1 teaspoon Spice Islands® Ground Cloves
1 tablespoon Spice Islands® Ground Ginger
1 tablespoon Spice Islands ® Ground Saigon Cinnamon

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, whip together sugar, butter, molasses, egg, and vanilla. Mix in flour, baking soda, baking powder, and spices until dough comes together. Wrap well and refrigerate overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Roll cookie dough into 1-inch balls and roll in sugar to coat. Arrange on rimmed baking sheets. Bake for 15 minutes.

A real old fashioned molasses cookie for you to sink your teeth into. These cookies are cut out into circles and each one has a decorative raisin in the middle. To make sour milk, just add 1 teaspoon of vinegar to a cup of milk and let it stand for 5 minutes.

1 cup white sugar
1 cup shortening
1 cup molasses
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
5 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
4 teaspoons baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup sour milk
½ cup raisins for decorating

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, cream together the sugar and shortening until smooth. Stir in the molasses and vanilla. Combine the flour, cinnamon, baking soda and salt; stir into the mixture alternately with the sour milk. Cover the dough and chill for at least one hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).Grease cookie sheets. On a lightly floured surface, roll out about 1/3 of the dough to 1/4 inch in thickness. Cut into circles about 3 inches in diameter using a cookie cutter or drinking glass. Place cookies 2 inches apart onto the prepared cookies sheets. Place a raisin onto the center of each cookie.
  • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until lightly browned. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
