Categories     Main Course

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 6

8 oz pasta (225g, recommend wholewheat spaghetti/thin spaghetti or linguini)
8 oz crabmeat (225g, or one large dressed crab)
1 handful parsley (small)
1 clove garlic (or 2, depending on size (or more to taste - this isn't that strong))
3 tbsp olive oil (approx, or butter/a mixture)
a couple shakes of red pepper flakes (optional)

Steps:

  • Cook the pasta according to the packet instructions - would recommend slightly al dente.
  • Meanwhile, remove the leaves from the parsley and roughly chop, and peel and finely dice the garlic.
  • Drain the pasta and dry the pan then add 2 tbsp olive oil (or 1tbsp each of butter and oil) and cook the garlic for a minute until you can see it is softening but not browning.
  • Remove pan from the heat and add back the pasta, add the parsley and crab and a bit more oil and mix everything so the garlic, crab and parley are well distributed through the pasta. Add a little more oil if needed to loosen it.
  • Serve with a little red pepper flakes sprinkled on top (optionally).

Provided by Julia Frey of Vikalinka

Categories     Main Course

Number Of Ingredients 9

1/2 lbs linguine, spaghetti or pasta of your choice
3 tbsp unsalted butter
2 cloves garlic
75ml/1/3 cup dry white wine
1/2 lemon, juice only
200g/1 cup ready to eat crab meat
50g/1/2 cup Parmesan cheese
2 tbsp chopped parsley
salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Cook the linguine in a large pot of salted, boiling water according to package instructions.
  • Five minutes before the pasta is ready, set a large pan over low heat and melt the butter, add sliced garlic and sauté for 1 minute over very low heat without colouring it, then pour in white wine and lemon juice, turn the heat up to medium and let it reduce for a couple of minutes.
  • Stir in the cooked crabmeat and take it off the heat. Drain the pasta once cooked and reserve ½ cup of pasta water. Add the pasta to the pan with the crabmeat and toss to combine, add half of the reserved of pasta water and Parmesan cheese, stir over low heat until the cheese melts and coats the pasta. If the pasta is a bit dry add a splash of pasta water. Your pasta dish should be loose but not swimming in sauce, just lightly coated. Salt to taste. Sprinkle with fresh parsley before serving.

3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2 shallots, chopped
1 clove garlic, smashed and peeled
1/2 cup dry white wine
Two 14-ounce cans cherry or baby Roma tomatoes
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

TOMATO AND GARLIC PASTA

Tomato and Garlic Pasta image

There is nothing nicer than the flavor of fresh tomatoes. You can use canned, but the trouble you take to prepare this dish is worth it. You prepare the sauce while the pasta is cooking, no long hours of waiting. Great if you want meatless pasta.

Categories     Main Dish Recipes     Pasta

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 (8 ounce) package angel hair pasta
2 pounds tomatoes
4 cloves crushed garlic
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
1 tablespoon tomato paste
salt to taste
ground black pepper to taste
¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Place tomatoes in a kettle, and cover with cold water. Bring just to the boil. Pour off water, and cover again with cold water. Peel. Cut into small pieces.
  • Cook the pasta in a large pot of boiling salted water until al dente.
  • In a large skillet or saute pan, saute the garlic in enough olive oil to cover the bottom of the pan. The garlic should just become opaque, not brown. Stir in the tomato paste. Immediately stir in the tomatoes, and salt and pepper. Reduce heat, and simmer until the pasta is ready; add the basil.
  • Drain the pasta, but do not rinse in cold water. Toss with a couple of tablespoons of olive oil, and then mix into the sauce. Reduce the heat as low as possible. Keep warm, uncovered, for about 10 minutes when it is ready to serve. Garnish generously with fresh Parmesan cheese.
  • VARIATIONS: Saute fresh quartered mushrooms with the garlic, or add shoestring zucchini along with the tomato.

GARLICKY CRAB WITH PASTA

Garlicky Crab With Pasta image

This recipe calls for king crab legs but Dungeness also works really well. It's best to use frozen crab so that you can defrost it on your own schedule. Also, add in other stuff, such as sliced green onions or fresh basil leaves or even sliced jalapeno peppers if you like. This is a Chicago Tribune recipe.

Categories     Crab

Time 35m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 1/2-2 lbs frozen king crab legs
1 lb spaghetti
1/4 cup butter
5 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

Steps:

  • heat a large stockpot of salted water to a boil over high heat; add crab legs; cover. Cook until crab is cooked through, 6 minutes; transfer crab to a colander but don't drain the water out of the pot, keep it boiling.
  • Add spaghetti to the crab water; cook according to package directions. Drain; keep warm. Meanwhile, crack crab legs into smaller, more manageable pieces.
  • Melt 3 T. of the butter in a large skillet or wok. Add garlic; cook, stirring, until garlic is slightly browned and aromatic, about 2 minutes. Add crab legs and parsley to skillet; toss to coat the shells and the meat with the hot butter and garlic. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
  • Melt remaining 1 T. butter in the skillet over medium heat. Add cooked pasta, tossing until well coated. Transfer pasta to a platter; top with reserved crab.
