Time 36m

Number Of Ingredients 7

36 ounces frozen (pitted) sweet cherries (defrosted (about 7 1/2 cups of cherries))
1 teaspoon fresh orange zest
1 tablespoon fresh orange juice
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
15.25 ounces yellow cake mix ((1 box, do NOT make according to box))
1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
1/2 cup buttermilk

Steps:

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a 13x9-inch baking dish.
  • Add the cherries (with any liquid from the bag) to the baking dish. Stir in the orange zest and orange juice. Stir 1/4 cup of the flour. Stir in more flour as needed just to coat cherries slightly. Spread the cherries out to form an even layer.
  • Spoon the dry cake mix out in an even layer over the cherries.
  • Mix together the melted butter and buttermilk, then pour over the cake mix in an even layer. Tilt pan if needed for butter and buttermilk to cover the top of the dry cake mix.
  • Bake the cake at 350 degrees F for 45-60 minutes or until golden brown and the cherries are bubbling.

Amazingly easy and amazingly good... too good! This is my mother-in-law's recipe that was just recently shared. It would be a shame not to share it. Best served warm and with vanilla ice cream (of course).

Time 1h20m

Yield 16

Number Of Ingredients 10

cooking spray (such as Pam®)
1 (8 ounce) package refrigerated crescent rolls (such as Pillsbury® Grands! Big and Flaky)
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
1 (12 ounce) can cherry pie filling
1 (18.5 ounce) package yellow cake mix (such as Duncan Hines®)
¾ cup unsalted butter, cut into 1/4-inch pieces

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Spray a 9x13-inch glass baking dish with cooking spray.
  • Unroll crescent rolls into the prepared dish, pinching the seams together.
  • Beat cream cheese, white sugar, and vanilla extract together in a bowl; spread over crescent roll dough. Sprinkle brown sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon over cream cheese mixture layer.
  • Pour cherry pie filling over brown sugar layer. Sprinkle yellow cake mix over cherry pie filling. Arrange butter slices over cake mix and top with remaining 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Wrap a piece of aluminum foil under baking dish to help prevent rolls from burning.
