CRISPY BROWNIE BARS

Crispy Brownie Bars image

I saw this recipe on the Betty Crocker Website. These look so delicious! In the original recipe, it has 3/4 cup chopped peanuts that you add to the top of the frosting layer, but I despise nuts and so these are optional if you like them! I am not including the chill times, just in preparing in each step.

Yield 24 Bars

Number Of Ingredients 8

24 ounces betty crocker Original Supreme brownie mix
1/2 cup oil
1/3 cup water
3 eggs
1 lb vanilla frosting
3 cups crisp rice cereal
1 cup creamy peanut butter
1 (12 ounce) bag semi-sweet chocolate chips (2)

Steps:

  • Make the brownies by combining the brownie mix, oil, water, and eggs. Stir well. Pour the batter into a large baking dish and bake at 375 degrees for about 18-20 minutes and they are cooked through.
  • Cool completely for about an hour. Frost the brownies and refrigerate for about 20 minutes.
  • While the brownies are chilling again, melt the peanut butter and the chocolate chips in a large pan on the stove. Add the crispy rice cereal and stir well. Remove the brownies from the refrigerator and pour the cereal mixture on top of the frosting, smoothing out the top. Allow to cool completely until set, for about 25 minutes or until ready to serve.

Why choose between crispy treats and brownies when you can have both? These easy chocolate-peanut butter bars combine two favorites into one tasty dessert.

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 box (19.9 oz) Betty Crocker™ Brownie Mix Dark Chocolate Fudge
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup water
3 eggs, divided
1/3 cup creamy peanut butter
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
10 oz mini marshmallows OR 1 (7 oz) container marshmallow crème
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
6 cups crisp rice cereal
1/2 cup mini chocolate chips

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. Line a 13-by-9-inch pan with foil, then spray bottom only of pan with cooking or baking spray.
  • In a large bowl, stir brownie mix, oil, water and 2 eggs until just combined. In a separate medium bowl, stir remaining egg, peanut butter and brown sugar until well combined.
  • Pour and spread half of brownie batter into prepared pan. Top randomly with tablespoonfuls of the peanut butter mixture, then randomly with tablespoonfuls of the remaining brownie batter. Run a knife a few times through batter to create swirls. Bake brownies 30 to 40 minutes until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  • As soon as brownies come out of oven, make crispy treat layer. In a large saucepan over low heat, melt butter. Stir in marshmallows or marshmallow crème until melted. Stir in peanut butter, then stir in cereal until well coated.
  • Carefully and gently spread and press cereal mixture into an even layer on top of warm brownies. Sprinkle with mini chocolate chips. Let set until treats are fully cooled before slicing.
