5 cups angel food cake cubes
1/4 cup cherry liqueur, optional
1 cup confectioners' sugar
3 ounces cream cheese, softened
8 ounces frozen nondairy whipped topping, thawed, divided
1/2 cup toasted chopped pecans
1 can (21 ounces) cherry filling or topping

Steps:

  • Place cake cubes in large bowl. Sprinkle with liqueur if desired; let stand 30 minutes. In a medium bowl, combine confectioners' sugar and cream cheese; beat until blended. Reserve 2 tablespoons whipped topping; fold remaining topping into cheese mixture. Stir topping mixture and pecans into cake cubes; mix well. Spoon cake mixture into a pretty glass or crystal bowl. Spread cherry filling evenly over top. Or, if desired, layer one-half cake mixture and cherry filling; repeat layers.) Cover; refrigerate at least 3 hours. Garnish servings with reserved topping.

From Quick Cooking 2001 recipe Light and refreshing dessert. Very pretty in a trifle bowl. Leave time for trifle to chill for at least 4 hours before serving. Note: Not sure of the size of a normal envelope of dry whipped topping mix - just the standard size is needed. You can use a store bought angel food cake or make one at home.

10 inches round pre-made angel food cake (store bought or homemade, your choice)
1 3/4 cups cold milk
1 (3 1/2 ounce) package vanilla instant pudding mix
1 (1/2 ounce) envelope whipped dessert topping mix
1/2 cup cold milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons maraschino cherry juice
1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling
3/4 cup chocolate syrup
1/2 cup flaked coconut, toasted
1/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted

Steps:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the 1 3/4 cups of milk and pudding mix. Beat on low speed for 2 minutes or until thickened.
  • In another bowl, beat whipped topping mix, vanilla and the 1/2 cup remaining milk until stiff peaks form.
  • Cut cake into 1/2 inch cubes and place half in a 3 quart glass trifle bowl.
  • Sprinkle with 1 tbls cherry juice.
  • Top with half of the pie filling, half of the prepared pudding and 1/4 cup of the chocolate syrup.
  • Repeat layers.
  • Top with whipping topping and remaining syrup.
  • Sprinkle with coconut and almonds.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours before serving.

Steps:

  • 1. Place cubes in a large bowl. Sprinkle with liqueur and let stand for 30 minutes. In medium bowl combine confectioners sugar and cream cheese, beat until well blended. Reserve 2 Tbsp. whipped topping. Fold remaining topping into cheese mixture. Stir topping mixture and pecans into cake cubes. Spoon cake mixture into trifle dish or deep salad bowl. Spread cherry filling over top or alternate layers with cherries. Put 2 Tbsp. whipped topping on top. Chill at least 3 hours.

3 ounces softened cream cheese
8 ounces thawed whipped topping
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 (21 ounce) can cherry pie filling

  • Place cake cubes in large bowl; let stand 30 minutes.
  • In medium bowl, combine sugar and cream cheese. Beat until blended. Fold whipped topping into cheese mixture.

1 1/2 angel food cake, torn into bite sized pieces (optional: reserve enough crumbs to sprinkle on top of trifle for garnish)
1 32 ounce container light nonfat plain or vanilla yogurt
2/3 cup light frozen dessert topping, thawed
1 package fat free-sugar free white chocolate instant pudding
2 1/2 cups marshmallow fluff (about 2/3 of a 13 ounce jar)
2 21 ounce cans light cherry pie filling

Steps:

  • Prepare cake pieces and set aside. (Use bits of cake left on sides and bottom of container for garnish, if desired.) Combine yogurt, frozen dessert topping and pudding powder in medium bowl and set aside. In electric mixer bowl, beat marshmallow fluff on low speed 1 1/2 minutes; scrape down sides of bowl; beat 1 1/2 minutes longer. Add 1 cup of the yogurt mixture to the fluff mixture; beat on low speed about 1 minute. Scape down sides of bowl. Add remaining yogurt mixture; beat on medium speed till smooth, about 2 minutes. Layer in a 3 quart, clear glass bowl: 1 can cherry pie filling, 1/2 cake pieces, 1/2 yogurt mixture, remaining 1/2 cake pieces, remaining 1/2 yogurt mixture and remaining can cherry pie filling. Top with reserved cake crumbs. Chill till serving time. Serves 10-12 people.
