Creamy Bratwurst Stew image

A rich sauce coats this hearty combination of potatoes, carrots and bratwurst chunks. I adapted a baked stew recipe that appeared in a newspaper. This is so comforting on cold winter evenings. -Susan Holmes, Germantown, Wisconsin

Number Of Ingredients 13

1-3/4 pounds potatoes (about 4 medium), peeled and cubed
2 medium carrots, chopped
2 celery ribs, chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
1 medium green pepper, chopped
2 pounds uncooked bratwurst links
1/2 cup chicken broth
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 cups half-and-half cream
1 tablespoon cornstarch
3 tablespoons cold water

Steps:

  • Place first 5 ingredients in a 5-qt. slow cooker; toss to combine. Top with bratwurst. Mix broth and seasonings; pour over top., Cook, covered, on low 6-7 hours, until sausage is cooked through and vegetables are tender. Remove sausages from slow cooker; cut into 1-in. slices. Return sausages to potato mixture; stir in cream., Mix cornstarch and water until smooth; stir into stew. Cook, covered, on high until thickened, about 30 minutes.

I was invited to my BFF's house for dinner and she made this fantastic stew. I couldn't get enough of it cause it was so darn good. The flavor was out of this world. So I have to give credit to my best friend in the whole world miss Julie. hope you all enjoy it too.

6 bratwursts cut in chunks
4 medium potatoes peeled and cubed
1 can(s) cream of mushroom soup
2 medium red peppers diced
2 c shredded cheddar cheese
1 can(s) green beans drained
1 c water

Steps:

  • 1. Brown the bratwurst in skillet until no longer pink. Add dry minced onion and cook for 1 minute.
  • 2. Add brats and all other ingredients to crock pot. Cook 3 hours until potatoes are fork tender.

4 -5 medium cooked potatoes, peeled and chopped
2 (15 ounce) cans cut green beans, drained
1 (1 lb) package Eckrich smoked sausage
2 (15 ounce) cans cream of mushroom soup
2 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
milk

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Stir all the ingredients together in a large bowl.
  • Add some milk to thin it out.
  • Put in oven-proof pot or dish and bake for 30-45 minutes.
  • Note: Under-cook the potatoes slightly or they will get mushy.

1 (14.5 ounce) can sauerkraut, liquid drained and reserved
2 tablespoons brown mustard
1 tablespoon brown sugar
⅛ teaspoon ground celery seed
⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper
12 ounces fully-cooked cheddar bratwurst sausages, cut into 1/4-inch slices
½ (16 ounce) package frozen shoestring french fries

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Spread sauerkraut into bottom of a 9-inch square glass baking dish.
  • Stir reserved liquid from sauerkraut, brown mustard, brown sugar, celery seed, and black pepper together in a bowl; drizzle over sauerkraut. Arrange sausage slices in a layer over the sauerkraut and sauce. Loosely pile frozen french fries atop the sausage.
