The Best Bread Pudding recipe. A sweet and custard-like dessert with flavors of vanilla and brown sugar. Stir together until the sugar is melted. Add the brandy, stirring well. Pour over bread pudding. Serve warm or cold.

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 cups divided granulated sugar
5 large beaten eggs
2 cups milk
4 teaspoons divided vanilla extract
3 cups cubed allow to stale overnight in a bowl Italian bread
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup melted, plus 1/4 cup softened butter
1 cup chopped pecans
1 beaten, for the sauce egg
1/4 cup brandy

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350º. Grease a 13 by 9 by 2-inch pan.
  • Mix together 2 cups granulated sugar, 5 eggs and milk in a bowl; add 2 teaspoons vanilla. Pour over cubed bread and let sit for 10 minutes.
  • In another bowl, mix and crumble together brown sugar, 1/4 cup softened butter and pecans.
  • Pour bread mixture into prepared pan. Sprinkle brown sugar mixture over the top and bake for 35 to 45 minutes, or until set. Remove from oven.
  • For the sauce:
  • Mix together 1 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup melted butter, 1 egg, and 2 teaspoons vanilla in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir together until the sugar is melted. Add the brandy, stirring well. Pour over bread pudding. Serve warm or cold.

8 cups cubed day-old French bread, crusts removed
5 large eggs
3 cups buttermilk
1 can (15 ounces) cream of coconut
1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
1 cup pineapple preserves
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 cup heavy whipping cream
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup caramel ice cream topping
1 tablespoon rum or 1 teaspoon rum extract
Toasted sweetened shredded coconut, optional

Steps:

  • Place bread in a greased 13x9-in. baking dish. In a large bowl, combine the eggs, buttermilk, cream of coconut, coconut, preserves, sugar and cinnamon. Pour mixture over bread cubes. Let stand for 15 minutes or until bread is softened. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 55-65 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean., In a large bowl, beat the cream, sour cream, caramel topping and rum until soft peaks form. Serve with warm or cooled bread pudding. Sprinkle with toasted coconut if desired.

Pastry for single-crust pie
1 cup cubed bread
2 large eggs, room temperature
2 cups 2% milk
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 teaspoons butter

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425°. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough to a 1/8-in.-thick circle; transfer to a 9-in. pie plate. Trim crust to 1/2 in. beyond rim of plate; flute edge. Arrange bread in bottom of pie crust. In a large bowl, whisk eggs, milk, sugar and vanilla; pour over bread. Sprinkle with nutmeg and dot with butter. Bake 10 minutes. Reduce oven setting to 350°., Bake until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean, 45-50 minutes longer. Cover edge loosely with foil during the last 15 minutes if needed to prevent overbrowning. Remove foil. Cool on a wire rack 1 hour. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours before serving.

This is my Grandmothers buttermilk pie recipe and I have so many fond memories of her in the kitchen making this pie. It has to be one of my favorites and I hope it will become yours too.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 3/4 c sugar
1 stick unsalted butter, room temp
3 large eggs
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
3 Tbsp all purpose flour
pinch of salt
1 c buttermilk
1 9" unbaked pie crust

Steps:

  • 1. Cream together the sugar and butter till well blended. Beat in the eggs, 1 at a time, until the mixture is nice and smooth. Add in the vanilla, salt and flour. Beat in the buttermilk until well combined.
  • 2. Place the pie shell on a baking sheet lined with foil (catches any overflow). Fill the pie shell with the buttermilk mixture, just to the top of the shell. Pour any remaining into an ungreased custard cup. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and let set until almost cooled before serving. Store covered in the fridge

2 tablespoons butter, melted, plus more for the baking dish
2 1/2 cups sourdough bread cubes (1-inch cubes)
2 1/2 cups milk
1 1/2 tablespoons vanilla
2 large eggs
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup lightly packed brown sugar
Whiskey Cream Sauce, recipe follows, for serving

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Butter a 9-inch baking dish.
  • Arrange the bread cubes tightly in the prepared baking dish. Beat together the butter, milk, vanilla and eggs in a large bowl. Add the granulated and brown sugars and mix until dissolved. Pour the mixture over the bread.
  • Put the baking dish on a baking sheet. Bake until the crust is golden brown, 55 to 70 minutes. Let rest for 20 minutes before serving.

4 Tbsp unsalted butter
1 stick unsalted butter
7 1/2 c cubed french bread
1 qt buttermilk
1 c golden raisins
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 1/3 c brown sugar, firmly packed
2 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 tsp rum extract
1/2 c granulated sugar
1 egg yolk
1/4 c water
3 Tbsp rum

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Place 4 T of the butter in a 13x9" baking dish and place in the oven to melt.
  • 2. Meanwhile, combine the bread cubes, buttermilk and raisins in a large mixing bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, brown sugar, vanilla extract and rum extract. Pour over the bread mixture and stir gently to combine.
  • 3. Transfer to the prepared pan nd pour over the melted butter. Bake 1 hour.
  • 4. Meanwhile, combine the remaining butter, granulated sugar, egg yolk and water in a small saucepan. Stir well and place over medium heat. Stir constantly until the sugar dissolves and the sauce begins to thicken about 10 min. Add the rum. To serve, cut the warm bread pudding in squares, drizzle with the sauce and serve warm.
