For better taste, I prefer to use stalks that are not bigger around than the diameter of a nickel.

Steps:
- 1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Wash asparagus, pat dry. Cut about 1/2 inch off of the bottom of each stalk and arrange aspargus in a single layer on baking sheet.
- 2. Season with salt and pepper to your liking. Bake for 12 minutes or until tender. During the last couple minutes of baking, melt butter. Remove from heat. Remove asparagus from oven.
- 3. Add the soy sauce and balsamic vinegar. Plate the asparagus. Pour sauce over and serve.
