Texas Hot Sauce and Dogs image

Not the secret recipe, but a copycat of the sauce served at Texas Hot Restaurant, Allegany County, New York.

1/4 cup butter
1 cup chopped onion
1 lb lean ground beef
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
hot dog, grilled (Tobin hot dogs)
hot dog bun, steamed
plain yellow mustard
chopped onion

Steps:

  • Make the sauce: in a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat; add in onion; stir/saute onion until soft but not brown.
  • Add in ground beef and spices; mix well; add enough water to just cover mixture.
  • Simmer mixture over low heat, stirring occasionally until meat is cooked and sauce is thickened, about 30 minutes.
  • To serve-place hot dogs in buns and top with Texas Hot Sauce, mustard, and onion; serve immediately.
