SPICY APPLE CHIPS RECIPE image

5-10 (3 lbs) cored apples, (optional to remove skin) - any kind of apple
1 c. sugar
1 t. allspice
1 t. cinnamon
1 t. ground cloves
2 T. hot pepper sauce
1 t. cayenne pepper
1 c. apple cider
1 c. boiling water

Steps:

  • 1. Combine all but the apples in a medium stainless steel pot and stir until sugar is dissolved. 2. Slice the apples thin and soak them in syrup for at least 1 hour. 3. Remove apples from syrup with a slotted spoon (drip off excess moisture) 4. Arrange slices in a dehydrator (follow manufacturer's instructions). 5. Dehydrate until preferred crispness, between 6-12 hours. 5. Store in airtight containers or bags. (Refrig 2-3 mo or freezer forever and crunchier.)
