Red Tomato Chutney image

This vivid red chutney compliments any meat dish, and any fried, tangy or savory dish. Believe it or not my favorite way to eat it is with fried green tomatoes! What a beautiful and delicious contrast...

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 - (16 ounce) can whole tomatoes or may use equivalent of fresh tomatoes
1 cup(s) light brown sugar
1/2 cup(s) white sugar
2 cup(s) finely chopped green pepper
1 cup(s) finely chopped white onion
2 tablespoon(s) ketchup
2 -10 dash(es) your fav hot pepper sauce
1 teaspoon(s) black pepper

Steps:

  • In a heavy saucepan, stir together the tomatoes, brown and white sugars, green pepper, onion, ketchup, hot pepper sauce, and pepper. Cook at a simmer for about 2 hours, stirring frequently until thickened. Cool before serving. Keep refrigerated.
