Mom's raisin bread pudding image

The recipe was a favorite of my mom's. Although mom is gone, her recipe lives on and is now made by my daughter and granddaughters. We all love it. You can pour lemon sauce or homemade whipped cream over the top and it's twice as good.

Number Of Ingredients 7

3 3/4 c milk
5 eggs
1/2 c sugar
1 1/2 tsp good vanilla
1/8 tsp salt
3 c raisin bread cut into cubes
hot water

Steps:

  • 1. In a 1/2 quart casserole beat milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla and salt with a wire whisk or fork until blended.
  • 2. Stir in bread cubes.
  • 3. Set casserole in an 8"x8" baking pan; place pan on oven rack.
  • 4. Pour hot water into pan to come halfway up side of casserole.
  • 5. Bake at 325 for 1 1/4 hours or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.
  • 6. Serve pudding warm with lemon sauce or homemade whipped cream.
  • 7. Can be covered, refrigerated and served cold.
