Number Of Ingredients 10

1/2 cup(s) unsalted butter
4 tablespoon(s) cornstarch
1/4 cup(s) water
1/2 cup(s) granulated sugar
1/2 cup(s) brown sugar - packed
1 teaspoon(s) cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon(s) ground nutmeg
3 large mcintosh apples - peeled, cored and sliced
2 large gala apples - peeled, cored and sliced
2 8-inch, deep dish pie crusts

Steps:

  • Melt the butter in a large saucepan. Continue to cook the butter until it is browned a dark golden color and smells nutty, about 2 to 3 minutes, stirring often.
  • Stir in cornstarch to form a paste. Stir in the water.
  • Add the granulated sugar, brown sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon, and bring to a low boil.
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  • Add the apples to the sugar mixture in the saucepan, and cook on low heat for 5 minutes.
  • Place the bottom crust in your pan. Par-bake for 4 minutes. Pour apple filling into crust. Cover with second pie crust. Crimp edges, and cut slits in top for vent. (I sprinkle a little sugar on top)
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to 1 hour, until apples are soft.
