Lil' Mama's Big Biscuits image

Honestly...they are light, big, fluffy and won't fall apart. I created these because I ran out of butter and won't make them any other way! "PERFECT for biscuits and gravy"

Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 c all-purpose flour
1 Tbsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 Tbsp white sugar
1/3 c crisco
1 c buttermilk

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees
  • 2. In a large bowl (do not use a processor or mixer), whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Gradually stir in your buttermilk.
  • 3. place onto a lightly floured surface, and knead 20 to 30 times. Roll out to one inch thickness and cut out your circles using a doughnut cutter. You can get creative and use cookie cutters.
  • 4. Place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper 2 inches apart. Bake for 12 to 13 minutes or until golden brown. Watch your oven after 10 minutes to get the accurate time, I use a gas oven and this was the time it took for mine to bake.
