Homemade Lemonade image

Long ago, when we used to have family get-togethers out in the country, Aunt Neta would mix up lemonade in a big ol' clean washtub with a block of ice in the center. It doesn't get any better than that, but if you just want a small amount of homemade lemonade for your family, you can make this in a 3 quart pitcher. Play with...

Time 10m

Number Of Ingredients 3

5 lemons
1 c sugar
3 qt water & ice

Steps:

  • 1. Rinse off the lemons, then roll them on the kitchen counter to make them juicier. (Or vice versa)
  • 2. Slice the lemons into thin slices.
  • 3. In a 3 quart pitcher, layer the lemon slices and the sugar. Cover the pitcher with plastic wrap & refrigerate for 4 hours (or overnight). This will draw out the juice & lemon oil from the lemons.
  • 4. Using a potato masher or heavy spoon, press the lemons against the bottom or side of the pitcher to release the juice. Be careful not to tear up the lemon slices!
  • 5. Add water & ice to make 3 quarts of lemonade. Stir well, then taste. Adjust lemon juice, water, and/or sugar to suit your taste. (Write down YOUR amounts so your lemonade will be perfect to you each time.)
