Grilled Cheese With Bacon & Pear image

I had a sandwich at a restaurant called Hemingway's in the Oakland section of Pittsburgh and I wanted to try a hand at one. This is not a copycat of their recipe as it was too long ago for me to exactly remember what was on it. I made this based on the concept and doing some searching on the 'net. I used a Bosc pear but I think a Bartlett may be sweeter.

Yield 2 sandwiches, 2 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

4 slices thick bread
4 slices bacon, cooked
1 pear, thinly sliced (Bartlett or Bosc)
2 -3 slices sharp cheddar cheese, sliced (may use white cheddar)
1 tablespoon butter, for spreading

Steps:

  • Butter one side of each piece of bread.
  • Spray a pan with cooking spray; heat pan.
  • Place two pieces of the bread in the pan, butter side down, and top with cheese (1 to 1.5 slices), two slices of cooked bacon, and a few pear slices.
  • Grill over medium heat until bread is nicely browned and flip. Continue to grill until other side is browned and cheese is melted.
  • Cut each sandwich diagonally for that classic grilled cheese look and serve while hot and toasty.
