Gingerbread Waffles image

Your family and guests will go crazy for these gingerbread waffles. They're light, airy, and slightly crisp on the outside. You taste the ginger flavor, but it's less sweet than a piece of gingerbread. Great if you're having guests during the holidays. Use Virginia's suggestion and make them ahead of time. Number Of Ingredients 10

1 1/2 c all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp ginger
1/4 c sugar
3 eggs, beaten
1 c buttermilk
1/2 c molasses
1/3 c shortening, melted

Steps:

  • 1. Combine first 6 ingredients; set aside.
  • 2. Combine eggs, buttermilk, molasses, and melted shortening. Stir well.
  • 3. Add to flour mixture, stirring until blended.
  • 4. Pour batter into a preheated and oiled waffle iron.
  • 5. Cook until waffle cooked through and golden brown.
  • 6. Serve with butter and syrup. Waffles may be frozen and reheated in the microwave or oven.
