This born-and-raised Virginia gal couldn't resist sharing a classic, easy side dish recipe for old fashioned Virginia Spoon Bread!

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 cup boiling water*
1 cup cornmeal
2 eggs
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup milk, plus 3 tablespoons, divided
Optional, for serving: extra butter and honey!

Steps:

  • Place a medium baking dish (about 8 inches square) in a cold oven. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. The dish will warm up while the oven heats.
  • Meanwhile, stir cornmeal into boiling water. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Add salt. Dissolve baking powder in 3 tablespoons of milk. Add the baking powder mixture to the remaining 1 cup of milk. Add milk and baking powder mixture to the cornmeal.
  • Butter the hot baking dish. Transfer mixture to the buttered dish. Bake at 400 degrees F for 30 minutes. Serve spoon bread warm from the oven!

2 can(s) refrigerated crescent rolls
2 8oz pkg cream cheese-softened
1 egg yolk
1 c sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1/4 c sugar
2 tsp cinnamon

Steps:

  • 1. Mix 1/4 c. sugar and 2 t. cinnamon. Set aside
  • 2. Oven 350 Grease 9 x 13 pan Lay 1 pkg crescent roll in bottom of pan. Pinch seams together and somewhat up sides.
  • 3. Beat cream cheese, egg yolk, sugar, and vanilla until fluffy. Spread cream cheese mixture over crescent roll crust
  • 4. Lay other crescent roll over cream cheese mixture. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar over all
  • 5. Bake 25 minutes or until golden brown

2 pkg Crescent Rolls
2 8oz pkg Cream Cheese, softened
1 egg yolk
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
Topping
1/2 cup sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Steps:

  • Press one package of Crescent Roll dough in greased 9X13 pan. Beat next four ingredients until smooth and spread on dough. Press or roll second package of Crescent Rolls. I usually press them on foil or waxed paper before putting them on top of the cream cheese mixture. Brush dough with egg white. Sprinkle with topping. Bake at 350 for 30-35 minutes.

2 package(s) refrigerated crescent rolls
FILLING
(2) 8 oz box(es) cream cheese
1 - egg yolk
1 teaspoon(s) vanilla
1 cup(s) sugar
TOPPING
1/2 cup(s) sugar
1 teaspoon(s) cinnamon
1 - egg white (slightly beaten)
1/2 cup - fine chopped pecans (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray sides and bottom of glass 13x9 casserole dish.
  • Unroll 1 crescent roll into bottom of dish.
  • Mix ingredients for filling until creamy.Spread over dough. Top with second crescent dough. pinching together any open seams.
  • Mix topping ingredients except egg white. Brush dough with egg white and cover with topping. Press topping into egg white for best results.
  • Bake for 25 minutes until golden brown. Can be served warm or cold. ENJOY!!
