WHITE SANGRIA WITH CHERRIES AND NECTARINES



White Sangria with Cherries and Nectarines image

Fresh ginger pairs nicely with sweet cherries and nectarines and makes this riff on the classic summer punch even more refreshing.

1/2 cup superfine sugar 

6 slices (1/8 inch thick) peeled fresh ginger
4 ounces vodka
10 ounces cherries, pitted and halved (2 cups)
3 nectarines, pitted and sliced 1/2 inch thick
2 bottles (750 mL each) dry white wine, such as Sauvignon Blanc, chilled
Ice

Steps:

  • Combine sugar and 1/2 cup water in a small pot. Bring to a boil, and stir until sugar dissolves. Remove syrup from heat, and let cool.
  • Combine syrup and ginger, and muddle. Add vodka, cherries, and nectarines. Let macerate at least 3 hours at room temperature or up to 8 hours in the refrigerator.
  • Add wine, and stir. Serve over ice.

1/4 cup brandy
1 cup sliced peeled fresh or frozen peaches, thawed

1 bottle (750 milliliters) dry white wine, chilled
1 can (12 ounces) lemon-lime soda, chilled
Ice cubes

Steps:

  • In a pitcher, mix sugar and brandy until sugar is dissolved. Add remaining ingredients; stir gently to combine. Serve over ice.

2 tablespoons sugar

  • Mix the wine, rum, liqueur and sugar in a pitcher, stirring to dissolve the sugar, then add the nectarines, plums, and lemon.

1 bottle (750 ml) dry white wine, such as Sauvignon Blanc
4 cups (32 ounces) chilled ginger ale

2 firm ripe peaches, halved, pitted, and thinly sliced
1/2 honeydew melon, seeded, peeled, cut lengthwise into thirds, and sliced thinly crosswise (4 cups)
1 bottle white wine, such as Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio, well-chilled
1 can (12 ounces) or (1 1/2 cups) seltzer or club soda
Ice cubes, for serving

Steps:

  • In a large bowl or pitcher combine brandy and sugar. Let stand 5 minutes; stir to dissolve sugar. Add fruit and wine to brandy mixture; stir. Just before serving, add seltzer, and stir again. Serve over ice.
