WATERMELON GIMLET

Sip your worries away with this easy summer gimlet variation. A touch of watermelon simple syrup and just a smidge of lavender bitters give this summer classic an interesting twist.

2 oz Castle and Key gin
¾ oz lime juice
¾ oz scant watermelon simple syrup**
1 barspoon hibiscus simple syrup for color ((or homemade grenadine))
6 drops Scrappy's lavender bitters
Garnish: thin slice of watermelon and a basil leaf

Steps:

  • Combine gin, lime juice, simples and bitters in a shaking tin.
  • Add ice and shake for 10-12 seconds or until the shaker is so cold it's painful.
  • Double strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe glass and garnish with a watermelon slice and a fresh basil leaf.

A summery cocktail composed of frozen watermelon puree, simple syrup, gin, and lime juice then topped with crushed ice and perilla leaves. This watermelon gimlet embodies the flavor of summer and is so refreshing.

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 oz gin
1 oz lime juice
1 oz simple syrup
Crushed ice
1-2 cups frozen cubed watermelon
Perilla leaves or mint leaves for garnish

Steps:

  • In a blender or food processor, blend or pulse about a cup or two of frozen cubed watermelon until smooth. You want about a third cup of frozen watermelon puree.
  • In a medium sized glass or a cocktail shaker, add gin, lime juice, simple syrup, and crushed ice. Shake or stir until all the ingredients are incorporated. Pour the drink into a small serving glass or a mason jar. Top with more crushed ice. Then pour the icy cold watermelon puree over the ice.
  • Garnish the watermelon gimlet with mint leaves or perilla leaves.
  • Serve the watermelon gimlet cold.

GARDEN GIMLET

Yield 1 drink (plus extra blackberry syrup)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 cup blackberries, plus more for garnish
1/2 cup sugar
1 large sprig basil, plus more for garnish
2 ounces vodka
1/2 ounce fresh lime juice

Steps:

  • Make the blackberry syrup: Combine the blackberries, sugar and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until the syrup is dark red, about 8 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in the basil sprig; let cool. (Makes 10 ounces; refrigerate up to 1 week.)
  • Combine the vodka, lime juice and 1 ounce blackberry syrup in a cocktail shaker; fill with ice. Shake well and strain into an ice-filled glass. Garnish with blackberries and basil.

Seedless watermelon
8 basil leaves, torn, plus more for garnish
1 teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1 ounce vodka
3 ounces seltzer

Steps:

  • Cut watermelon into 1-inch cubes, and freeze in a single layer for at least 1 hour. Muddle basil leaves with sugar in the bottom of a glass; stir in lime juice and vodka. Add watermelon cubes. Top with seltzer; garnish with basil.
