This is the perfect cozy comforting fall drink! It's made with robust cider, tangy orange juice and sweet pineapple juice. Then add honey to taste (I like 2 Tbsp) and don't leave out those flavorful seasonal spices. They really make this drink!

8 cups apple cider
3 cups orange juice
1 (46 oz) can pineapple juice
2 Tbsp honey ((optional, or to taste))
2 3-inch cinnamon sticks
2 tsp cloves

Steps:

  • In a large pot (at least 6 quarts or larger) whisk together apple cider, pineapple juice, orange juice and honey. Add cinnamon sticks and cloves.
  • Bring to a boil over medium-high heat then reduce heat to low, cover and let simmer 30 minutes.
  • Strain and serve warm. Garnish if desired (see notes).

Wassail:
12 whole cloves
6 whole allspice
1/2 inch fresh ginger root, peeled and sliced
3 cinnamon sticks
12 whole white peppercorns
1 gallon fresh apple cider
6 ounces cranberry juice
3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
10-12 ounces bourbon
Tools:
cheesecloth, kitchen string, large pot
Glasses:
mugs
Garnish:
ground nutmeg and 1 cinnamon stick per drink

Steps:

  • To make the wassail, wrap the cloves, allspice, ginger, cinnamon sticks, and peppercorns in cheesecloth and tie with kitchen string. Combine the cider, cranberry juice, brown sugar, and spice bag in a large pot over high heat. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer 30 minutes.
  • For each serving, put one ounce of the bourbon into a mug and fill it with hot Wassail. Garnish with a dusting of nutmeg and a cinnamon stick.

4 cups apple juice
4 cups orange juice
2 cups cranberry juice
1 can (11.3 ounces) pineapple nectar
1/2 cup sugar
2 teaspoons lemon juice
3 to 4 cinnamon sticks (3 inches)
8 whole allspice
8 to 10 orange slices
Optional: Apple slices and fresh cranberries

Steps:

  • In a 5- or 6-qt. slow cooker, mix the first 6 ingredients. Place cinnamon sticks and allspice on a double thickness of cheesecloth. Gather corners of cloth to enclose seasonings; tie securely with string. Place spice bag and orange slices in slow cooker. Cook, covered, on low 4-5 hours to allow flavors to blend., Discard spice bag and orange slices. If desired, top punch with apple slices and cranberries. Serve warm.

I was given this recipe when touring a home in our community that was presented in full period costume and celebration for the Christmas holiday. In 1821 a German settler brought to the area the first tree for decorating, presented the traditional Yule Log ceremony and offered Wassail Punch.

1 tablespoon whole cloves
6 cinnamon sticks
3 tablespoons chopped crystallized ginger
3 ¾ cups white sugar
2 quarts water
2 quarts orange juice
2 cups lemon juice
1 gallon apple cider

Steps:

  • Wrap the cloves, cinnamon stick, and ginger in cheese cloth, and tie with string.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, water and spice bag. Simmer and stir until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat, and refrigerate overnight.
  • Before serving, stir in the orange juice, lemon juice, and cider. Reheat over medium low flame, and serve warm. Be careful not to boil.

⅔ cup white sugar
7 cups water
2 cinnamon sticks
1 tablespoon whole allspice
1 tablespoon whole cloves
2 (20 ounce) cans pineapple juice
6 fluid ounces frozen concentrated fruit punch
1 (6 ounce) can frozen orange juice concentrate

Steps:

  • In a large pot over medium heat, combine the cranberry juice, sugar and water. Bring to a boil and stir until sugar is dissolved.
  • Place the cinnamon, allspice and clove into a cheesecloth bag and tie shut. Add to the liquid and simmer 20 minutes.

1 orange, thinly sliced
5 cinnamon sticks
1 tablespoon whole allspice berries

  • Pour apple cider, pineapple juice, and cranberry juice into a stockpot. Place orange slices, cinnamon sticks, allspice berries, and cloves in a muslin pouch or directly into the apple cider mixture.
