CLASSIC IRISH COFFEE

Top the whiskey-spiked coffee with a homemade brown sugar whipped cream.

1/3 cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons light brown sugar
1/4 cup whiskey, preferably Irish
2 cups hot freshly brewed coffee

Steps:

  • Whip the cream and brown sugar in a medium bowl with a whisk until soft peaks form.
  • Divide the whiskey between 2 mugs and top with the hot coffee. Spoon the whipped cream over top and serve hot.

This is a classic, hot coffee drink done right, with a special trick for whipping cream. The details make it great: the combination of fresh-brewed hot coffee, a good Irish whiskey, and freshly whipped cream is hard to resist.

3 ounces heavy cream
1/4 ounce simple syrup
5 ounces freshly-brewed coffee
1 1/2 ounces Jameson or other good-quality Irish whiskey
1/2 ounce simple syrup

Steps:

  • Measure heavy cream and 1/4 oz simple syrup into a cocktail shaker (simple syrup is equal parts sugar and water, brought to a boil and cooled). Remove the spring from the cocktail strainer and add into the shaker. Shake as a cocktail for approximately one minute, until the cream has been whipped. For the coffee: Combine whiskey, 1/2 oz simple syrup, and coffee in the serving glass. Top with a few dollops of whipped cream.

1.5 oz. Bushmills Original Irish Whiskey
3 oz. hot coffee
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. heavy cream

Steps:

  • Pour coffee into a warmed Irish coffee glass mug
  • Add sugar to taste, stir to dissolve
  • Add Bushmills Original Irish Whiskey
  • Top with slightly whipped cream, poured gently over the back of a spoon
