1 cup cornmeal
1 cup all-purpose flour
¼ cup white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 egg
¼ cup shortening, melted
1 cup milk

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Grease a 12 cup muffin pan or line with muffin papers.
  • In a large bowl, stir together the cornmeal, flour, sugar and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the egg, shortening and milk. Stir until well blended. Spoon batter into the prepared muffin cups.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes in the preheated oven, until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean.

2 cups cornmeal
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 ⅓ cups white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups sour cream
1 cup butter, melted
4 eggs

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Mix cornmeal, flour, sugar, salt, and baking soda together in a large bowl. Add sour cream, butter, and eggs; stir until fully incorporated. Pour batter into the prepared baking dish.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until a tooth pick inserted in the center of the cornbread comes out clean, 30 to 35 minutes.

This recipe for cornbread works equally as well with yellow, white or blue cornmeal so you can choose the color of cornbread you want! With Gold Medal™ flour and 10 minutes of prep time, you'll be pulling a golden brown cornbread out of the oven before you know it.

1/4 cup butter (1/2 stick)
1 cup milk
1 large egg
1 1/4 cups yellow, white or blue cornmeal
1 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Heat the oven to 400°F. Spray the bottom and sides of an 8-inch square pan or 9-inch round cake pan with the cooking spray.
  • In a 1-quart saucepan, heat the butter over low heat until melted.
  • In a large bowl, beat the melted butter, milk and egg with a fork or wire whisk until well mixed. Add the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt all at once; stir just until the flour is moistened (batter will be lumpy). Pour batter into the pan; use a rubber spatula to scrape batter from bowl. Spread batter evenly in pan and smooth top of batter.
  • Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Serve warm.
