3 pounds ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
1/2 cup chopped sweet red pepper
2 cans (16 ounces each) pork and beans, drained
1 can (16 ounces) chili beans, undrained
1 can (15 ounces) pinto beans, rinsed and drained
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
3 to 4 tablespoons chili powder
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • In an ovenproof Dutch oven, cook the beef, onion and red pepper over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Stir in the remaining ingredients. , Cover and bake at 350° for 1-1/2 to 2 hours or until heated through, stirring once.

2 cups diced cooked ham
1 cup barbecue sauce
1 medium onion, chopped (1/2 cup)
1 can (15 to 16 oz) great northern beans, drained, rinsed
1 can (15 oz) Progresso™ dark red kidney beans, drained, rinsed
1 can (15 oz) Progresso™ black beans, drained, rinsed
2 pouches (6.5 oz each) Betty Crocker™ cornbread & muffin mix
2/3 cup milk
1/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
2 eggs

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 400°F. Spray 13x9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish with cooking spray.
  • In 3-quart saucepan, heat ham, barbecue sauce, onion and beans over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until thoroughly heated. Pour into baking dish.
  • In large bowl, stir 2 pouches muffin mix, milk, butter and eggs just until moistened (batter will be lumpy). Spread over ham and bean mixture to edges of dish.
  • Bake uncovered about 20 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean and cornbread is golden brown.

1 lb lean ground beef
1 small onion, chopped
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dried basil leaves
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano leaves
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 (16 ounce) can baked beans
1 (16 ounce) can green beans, drained
1 (16 ounce) can garbanzo beans, drained
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
1/4 cup catsup
3 slices bacon, cut into 1-in . pieces

Steps:

  • Cook onion and hamburger on high in a large frying pan until pinkness disappears.
  • Stir in flour, salt, basil, oregano and pepper. Cook until thickened.
  • Stir in the baked bean, the green beans, garbanzo beans, mustard and catsup.
  • Turn into a 2-quart casserole.
  • Add bacon to frying pan and cook until crisp. Drain well and crumble over meat and beans in casserole.
  • Bake at375° for 35-40 minute or until casserole bubbles and is heated through.
  • Add a salad and crisp bread to round out the meal.

I've come across many recipes for baked beans through the years, but none have the right amount of "kick." I created this recipe from several different ideas I've gathered over time. It's my husband's favorite.

6 bacon strips, cut into 1-inch pieces
1/2 cup chopped onion
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 can (28 ounces) baked beans
1 can (16 ounces) kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 can (16 ounces) butter beans, rinsed and drained
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, partially cook the bacon. Remove with a slotted spoon to paper towels. Drain, reserving 1 tablespoon drippings. In the drippings, saute onion and garlic until tender. In a large bowl, combine the beans, onion mixture and bacon. Stir in the brown sugar, ketchup, mustard, chili powder and pepper. , Transfer to a greased 2-qt. baking dish. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 50-60 minutes or until bubbly.

15 ounces black beans, rinsed and drained
15 ounces black-eyed peas, rinsed and drained
15 ounces tomatoes, canned and diced
3/4 cup salsa
1 garlic clove, crushed
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
4 green onions, chopped
4 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 cup cornmeal
2/3 cup milk

Steps:

  • Mix beans, tomatoes, salsa, garlic, cumin, chili powder and green onions in a medium oven-safe casserole dish. Set aside.
  • Cut butter into flour, baking powder and cornmeal. Mix in milk to make a soft dough.
  • Drop dough by spoonfuls onto the bean mix.
  • Bake uncovered 20 - 25 minutes, until golden brown.

1 cup chopped onion
1 (10 ounce) package frozen lima beans (NOTE: if you prefer soft lima beans use canned or pre-cook partially. Enjoy!)
1 (16 ounce) can baked beans
1 can kidney bean, drained
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon mustard
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons molasses
1 tablespoon white vinegar

Steps:

  • In a large skillet brown turkey and onions.
  • Drain if necessary.
  • Add lima beans and cook and stir until heated through.
  • Add remaining ingredients.

Look out summer! Here come the barbecue grills!!! And what goes better with grilled meat than some juicy, deep-flavored baked beans?

½ pound(s) sliced bacon, cut cross-wise into ¼-½
1 pound(s) ground beef*
- *or omit the beef and double the bacon, or toss in a pork hock...whatever you'd like!
1 package(s) lipton onion soup and recipe mix
½-¾ cup(s) chopped onion
1 16-oz. can(s) pork and beans, not drained
1 15½-oz. can(s) butter beans**, drained and rinsed
1 15½-oz. can(s) cannelloni beans**, drained and rinsed
- **or substitute the equivalent of any other bean(s) you like.
½ cup(s) ketchup
½ cup(s) packed brown sugar (may substutute equal amounts of honey and molasses for half the brown sugar if you wish)
1 tablespoon(s) prepared mustard (of your liking...i use uncle phil's sweet and sassy)
½ teaspoon(s) lawry's seasoned salt
- pepper blend, to taste (i mix ground black, white, and cayenne peppers)

Steps:

  • In Dutch oven cook bacon, hamburger and onion until meats are browned and onion is tender. Drain off any excess fat (although you will want some.)
  • Stir in remaining ingredients.
  • Cover and bake at 350°F for 1 hour, or transfer to 4-quart Crock-Pot® and cook on low heat setting for 6 hours (or longer to cook off more of the juice...your choice.) 1 hour before serving (after 5 hours of cooking), taste beans, and adjust seasoning if necessary. Continue cooking for last hour.

Butter or margarine (optional)
2/3 cup carrot thinly sliced
2/3 cup onion chopped
1/4 cup celery sliced
1 (15-ounce) can kidney beans drained
1 (15-ounce) can northern beans drained and liquid reserved
1 (8 1/2-ounce) can lima beans drained
1 1/2 teaspoons chicken bouillon
1 teaspoon parsley dried
1/2 teaspoon thyme dried, crushed
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1 bay leaf small

Steps:

  • * Cooking Time: 18 to 20 minutes Power: 100% (700 watts) 50% (350 watts) Place bacon in a deep 2-quart round microwavable dish. Cover with waxed paper. Microwave at 100% power (700 watts) for 3 to 4 minutes or until browned, stirring after 2 minutes. Remove bacon with a slotted spoon set aside. Discard all but 2 tablespoons of the drippings (if not enough drippings, add butter).Stir carrots, onion and celery into drippings in microwavable dish, then push to outer edge of dish. Cover with a glass lid or plastic wrap, turning one edge back. Microwave at 100% power for 7 to 8 minutes or until vegetables are wilted and almost tender, stirring every 3 minutes.Stir in kidney beans. Great Northern beans with 1/3 cup liquid, lima beans, chicken bouillon granules, parsley, thyme, garlic powder and pepper. Push bay leaf into center of mixture. Re-cover and vent. Microwave at 100% power for 3 minutes or until mixture boils. Stir. Re-cover and vent. Reduce power and microwave at 50% power (350 watts) for 5 minutes or until very hot, stirring after 3 minutes.Remove bay leaf. Stir mixture sprinkle with reserved bacon and serve.

1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

  • Combine all ingredients in the crockpot, mix well. Cover - cook on High setting for 2 hours. If thicker juice is wanted, remove cover, cook 1 hour longer, stirring occasionally. NOTE: If you prefer, this casserole can be cooked in the microwave. In 2 quart microwave safe casserole or dish, combine all ingredients. Mix well. Cover with Waxed Paper. Microwave on HIGH for 8 - 11 minutes, stirring twice during cooking. If thicker juice is wanted, Microwave in two minute increments on 80% power.
