SALT AND SODIUM FREE TACO SEASONING

SALT AND SODIUM FREE TACO SEASONING image

I'm trying to cut down on salt and sodium. Here is a great taco seasoning I've used that has no salt in it but still has all the flavor.

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 5

6 tsp chili powder
4 1/2 tsp cumin
2 1/2 tsp garlic powder
5 tsp paprika
3 tsp onion powder

Steps:

  • 1. Stir everything together and store in a jar or plastic container. 7 teaspoons of this mixture equals 1.25oz. pkg. of taco seasoning. So, this makes 3 of those packages. I have also purchased those little zip lock bags and put 7teaspoons of this concoction in each of them so I just need to reach for a bag instead of count out 7 teaspoons each time. Then when you're making the taco meat, the water a normal package of seasoning calls for can actually be added to your seasonings right in the bag and then poured out on your hamburger. Less mess!

SALT FREE PENZEYS TACO SEASONING

Salt Free Penzeys Taco Seasoning image

I am always asking the Penzeys store here if they have come up with a salt free taco seasoning and to my suprise the girls there concocted one! This is from Lynn, an employee at the local store. All of the following ingredients are Penzeys spices so it might not taste the same if you use another brand. The ingredient list makes a bit more than 4 T. which is for 1 pound of meat. Please adjust accordingly.

  • Mix all ingredients together.
  • Brown 1 pound of ground beef and drain off fat.
  • Sprinkle 3-4 tablespoons of seasoning over beef, stirring to coat.

  • Reduce heat and simmer 5-10 minutes until thickened.
  • ETA: When posted, Zaar is splitting the tomato powder up and showing it as tomato, powder. These are not tomatoes, but powder bought from Penzeys. This could also be the cause of it showing 7mg of sodium as well.

Taco Seasoning (Salt Free) image

A salt free taco seasoning that is full of flavor. You may adjust the heat level by adding more or less cayenne pepper. This seasoning works very well with beef or chicken and is great when used as a rub on grilled chicken.
