1-1/2 pounds fresh broccoli, cut into spears
1 cup water
1 teaspoon chicken bouillon granules
1/4 cup sliced almonds
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • In a large saucepan, bring broccoli, water and bouillon to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 5-8 minutes or until broccoli is crisp-tender. Drain and place in a serving dish; keep warm. , In a large skillet, saute almonds in butter until browned. Add onion and salt; saute until onion is tender. Pour over broccoli; toss to coat.

1 head broccoli, broken into florets, stems chopped into 1-inch pieces
1 to 2 teaspoons extra-virgin olive oil
2 tablespoons slivered almonds, toasted
Zest of 1/2 lemon
Pinch crushed red pepper flakes

Steps:

  • Place a steamer basket in a saucepan filled with 1 inch water. Bring to a boil. Add broccoli. Cover, and cook until crisp-tender, 4 to 6 minutes. Transfer to a serving bowl.
  • Drizzle with olive oil and add almonds, lemon zest, and red pepper flakes; toss to combine. Serve immediately.

1 large head broccoli, stalks trimmed
4 tablespoons butter
2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced in rounds
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup slivered almonds

Steps:

  • Cut stalk of broccoli from florets. Peel the stalk and cut the stalk into 1/4-inch rounds. Cut head of broccoli into florets.
  • In a large saute pan, toast almonds until golden, about 4 minutes. Remove from pan. Add butter and when melted, add garlic and sliced stalks. Saute, until garlic turns golden and stalks start to brown, 2 to 3 minutes. Add the florets and continue cooking another 2 minutes. Add 1/4 cup water and cover pan. Cook broccoli until crisp tender, about 3 minutes more. Season with salt. Stir in toasted almonds and serve.

  • Wash the broccoli in cold water and pat dry. Peel the stems and cut them into rounds up to where the florets branch off. Break apart the florets.
  • Pour about an inch of water into a skillet or wok and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Put the broccoli florets in a steamer basket and season with salt. Set the steamer basket over the boiling water and cook until crisp-tender, 8 to 10 minutes depending on the size of the florets.
