If your tastes run to sweet and spicy, you'll love Mary Lou Moon's zesty pretzels with a twist. The coating is so yummy, you won't need a fattening dip to enjoy them! "They're a great snack for munching, without feeling a bit guilty," writes the Beaverton, Oregon reader.

4 cups thin pretzel sticks
3 tablespoons honey
2 teaspoons butter, melted
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon chili powder

Steps:

  • Line a 15x10x1-in. baking pan with foil; coat the foil with cooking spray. Place pretzels in a large bowl. , In a small bowl, combine the honey, butter, onion powder and chili powder. Pour over pretzels; toss to coat evenly. Spread into prepared pan. , Bake at 350° for 8 minutes, stirring once. Cool on a wire rack, stirring gently several times to separate.

Spiced Mixed Cocktail Nuts with Pretzels image

Toss mixed nuts and mini pretzels with a spice blend of paprika, dry mustard and cinnamon.

3 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons paprika
1 1/2 teaspoons minced fresh thyme
3/4 teaspoon ground mustard
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
Vegetable or canola oil, for oiling the baking sheet
1 large egg white
1 cup unsalted raw cashews
1 cup unsalted raw peanuts
1 cup unsalted raw pecans
1 cup unsalted raw walnuts
1 1/2 cups mini pretzels

Steps:

  • For the cocktail spice blend: Mix together the sugar, paprika, thyme, mustard, cinnamon, 1 1/2 teaspoons salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper in a small bowl and set aside.
  • For the nuts: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly oil a rimmed baking sheet.
  • Put the egg white in a large bowl and whisk until frothy. Add the cashews, peanuts, pecans, walnuts and pretzels and toss to coat in the egg white. Add the spice blend and toss again to coat.
  • Spread the nut mixture evenly on the prepared baking sheet and bake, stirring occasionally, until golden brown, 15 to 20 minutes. Let cool on the baking sheet, then transfer to a large bowl.

2 to 3 teaspoons chipotle chile powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1 teaspoon grated lime zest
1/4 teaspoon granulated garlic
Vegetable oil, for brushing
1 large egg white
2 cups raw unsalted cashews
2 cups raw unsalted pecans
1 1/2 cups mini pretzels

Steps:

  • Mix 1 1/2 teaspoons salt, the sugar, chile powder, cumin, coriander, lime zest and garlic in a small bowl; set aside.
  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and brush a rimmed baking sheet lightly with vegetable oil. Whisk the egg white in a large bowl until frothy. Add the cashews, pecans and mini pretzels. Sprinkle with the prepared spice blend and toss to coat. Spread the nut mixture evenly on the baking sheet and bake, stirring occasionally, until golden brown, 15 to 20 minutes; let cool on the baking sheet.

Spiced Rum Pretzels image

This is one of my favorite snacks. Perfect for game day or holiday munchies. Note: Whiskey or brandy can be substituted with equally delicious results!

1 stick(s) butter, unsalted
3 tablespoon(s) spiced rum
2 tablespoon(s) brown sugar
1 teaspoon(s) cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon(s) granulated garlic

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Melt butter in a small saucepan or microwave. Whisk in rum, brown sugar, and spices.
  • Pour butter mixture over pretzels in a very large bowl and toss gently to coat.
  • Spread coated pretzels on a parchment-lined rimmed baking sheet. Bake for one hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
  • Remove pretzels from oven and spread on paper towels or parchment to cool.

1 lb. thick sour dough or special dark pretzels
3/4 c olive oil
1 pkg. dry ranch dressing
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. lemon pepper
1 tsp. dill weed

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 275 degrees 2. Break large thick sourdough pretzels or spread dark pretzels in shallow baking pan (like a turkey pan). 3. Mix remaining ingredients and coat pretzels. You can pour the mixture over them and toss a few times. 4. Marinate for 10 minutes. 5. Bake pretzels in the pan 7-10 minutes, toss pretzels and bake another 7 minutes. 5. Let pretzels cool and place in ziplock bags. Pretzels will keep for a week. The flavors are actually better if made at least a day ahead. ENJOY!
