1 tablespoon sugar
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¾ cup melted butter
1 egg

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Toss apples with 1 tablespoon of sugar, and pour them into a pie plate. Thoroughly mix together 1 cup of sugar with the flour, cinnamon, butter, and egg. Spread this evenly over the top of the pie.
  • Bake in preheated oven until the apples have cooked and the topping is golden brown, about 40 to 45 minutes.

3/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans, toasted

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the sugar, flours, baking powder, salt and cinnamon. In a small bowl, whisk egg and vanilla. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. Fold in apples and walnuts., Transfer to a 9-in. pie plate coated with cooking spray. Bake at 350° for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. 2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons shortening
4 to 6 tablespoons cold water
1/3 to 1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon salt
8 cups thinly sliced peeled tart apples (8 medium)
2 tablespoons butter

Steps:

  • In medium bowl, mix 2 cups flour and 1 teaspoon salt. Cut in shortening, using pastry blender (or pulling 2 table knives through ingredients in opposite directions), until particles are size of small peas. Sprinkle with cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time, tossing with fork until all flour is moistened and pastry almost cleans side of bowl (1 to 2 teaspoons more water can be added if necessary).
  • Gather pastry into a ball. Divide in half; shape into 2 flattened rounds on lightly floured surface. Wrap in plastic wrap; refrigerate about 45 minutes or until dough is firm and cold, yet pliable. This allows the shortening to become slightly firm, which helps make the baked pastry more flaky. If refrigerated longer, let pastry soften slightly before rolling.
  • Heat oven to 425°F. With floured rolling pin, roll one pastry round into round 2 inches larger than upside-down 9-inch glass pie plate. Fold pastry into fourths; place in pie plate. Unfold and ease into plate, pressing firmly against bottom and side.
  • In large bowl, mix sugar, 1/4 cup flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and 1/8 teaspoon salt. Stir in apples. Spoon into pastry-lined pie plate. Dot with butter. Trim overhanging edge of pastry 1/2 inch from rim of plate.
  • Roll other round of pastry. Fold into fourths and cut slits so steam can escape. Unfold top pastry over filling; trim overhanging edge 1 inch from rim of plate. Fold and roll top edge under lower edge, pressing on rim to seal; flute as desired. Cover edge with 3-inch strip of aluminum foil to prevent excessive browning. Remove foil during last 15 minutes of baking.
  • Bake 40 to 50 minutes or until crust is brown and juice begins to bubble through slits in crust. Serve warm if desired.

I was so excited when I saw this recipe because for one thing it is so different from all the other Apple Pies I have made and it makes it's own crust. Also very delicious. I got this recipe from Paula's Recipe Blog on the internet. I wanted to share with all of you.

2 1/2 c cooking apples, peeled and sliced
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp cinnamon
3 tsp sugar
3/4 c sugar
10 Tbsp butter, melted
1/2 c chopped toasted pecans
1 egg lightly beaten
1 c all purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt

Steps:

  • 1. First: Lightly grease pie plate. Fill with sliced apples mixed with lemon juice. Pie pan should be about 2/3 full.
  • 2. Second: Sprinkle cinnamon and 3 teaspoons sugar over apples.
  • 3. Third: Mix sugar, melted butter, and pecans in a separate bowl. Stir in beaten egg, flour and salt. Spread over apples. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-60 minutes or until golden brown.

1 Tablespoons white sugar

3/4 cup butter, melted & cooled.

1 egg
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon almond extract (original recipe called for 1 tsp but we found that to be a bit overwhelming)
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350*F Spray a pie plate with non-stick spray and fill pie plate 3/4 full with sliced apples. Sprinkle apples with 1 Tablespoon white sugar and cinnamon. In a separate bowl, combine melted butter, 1 cup sugar, salt, egg, flour, almond extract & pecans. Mix well. Spread egg mixture over apples gently. Bake for 50 - 60 minutes or until crust is golden. Can be served warm or cold with whipped cream or ice cream.

1/4 teaspoon almond extract (or another 1/4 tsp vanilla)
4 egg whites
2 cups apples
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 tablespoon cinnamon
1/8 tablespoon ground cardamom (optional)

Steps:

  • Peel and chop the apples, set them aside.
  • Mix the flours, sugar, cardamom (optional) and baking powder together; add the egg whites and blend thoroughly.
  • The batter will be stiff.
  • Fold in the chopped apples.
  • Put mixture into a greased pie plate.
  • Mix the sugar, cinammon and cardamom together.
  • Sprinkle over the top of the apple-batter mixture.

Easy Swedish Apple Pie is deeply spiced apples with a sweet topping that resembles a top crust. There is no bottom crust, so it's easy to make!

Pie filling
5-6 apples (a mix of apple varieties is great)
1 1/2 tablespoons boiled apple cider (can omit, but it adds rich apple flavor)
1 1/2 teaspoons apple pie spice (or use 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon + a big pinch each of ground nutmeg, allspice and ginger)

Topping
1 cup flour
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup (1 stick) salted butter, melted and cooled slightly (if using unsalted butter, add 1/4 tsp. salt to the topping)
1 egg
Pinch of salt
.
Garnish
1-2 tablespoons coarse sugar crystals for the top

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 325F degrees. Lightly mist a 9-inch pie baking dish with nonstick spray. Set aside. Put the stick of butter in a microwave-safe measuring cup, and melt the butter (it should take about 25-30 seconds). Remove from microwave and allow butter to cool while you put the rest of the recipe together. (If you add piping hot melted butter and egg at the same time, you risk scrambling the egg, so that's why you cool the melted butter just a bit.)
  • Core, peel and slice apples about 1/4-inch thick. Add apples directly to prepared pie dish. It will look 2/3 full to full. Drizzle with boiled cider, and sprinkle with apple pie spice. Set dish aside.
  • In a bowl, combine all the topping ingredients -- flour, sugar, butter, egg and salt. I do this with a mixer, but you can do it by hand if you like. It will look a little softer than a cookie dough, but not as loose as a batter. Spread it over the top of the apples. I use a small offset spatula to do this. Sprinkle with coarse sugar crystals to give it a nice shiny look.
  • Bake for 1 hour. Crust will be light brown. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
  • Serves 6. (Or at my house, 1 teenager and 2 adults...all gone.)
