450g fruit, chopped into 1cm chunks (we used 400g Bramley apples and 50g fresh blackberries)
75g granulated sugar
50g butter, cold and cubed
100g plain flour
50g demerara sugar

Steps:

  • Heat the oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Mix together the fruit and granulated sugar (you will need less sugar for canned fruit) so it's evenly coated. Tip into a pie dish where it fits snugly.
  • Rub the butter into the flour to make a light breadcrumb texture. Do not overwork it or the crumble will become heavy. Add in the demerara sugar until combined and spread over the fruit until completely covered.
  • Bake for 35-50 mins until golden brown and bubbling, and the fruit is tender. Leave to cool for 5 mins before serving.

1 pkg of your favorite yellow cake mix (18.25 or 16.5 oz.) size
1 c quick-cooking rolled oats, uncooked
3/4 c (1 1/2 stick) butter or margarine, softened
2 eggs
1 c hershey's semi-sweet chocolate chips.
3/4 c chopped nuts (optional)
3/4 c flaked coconut (optiona)

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat your oven to 350.
  • 2. Combine cake mix, oats, butter and eggs in a large bowl and mix well.
  • 3. Stir in cocolate chips and mix well.
  • 4. Drop by rounded teaspoons onto ungreased cookie sheets.
  • 5. Place in oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • 6. Remove from oven and cool slightly before removing from cookie sheet to a wire rack to completely cool.
  • 7. Store in airtight container.

You can easily double it and still use the KitchenAid to mix and knead it. For a change of taste, change the flour to 1 1/2 cups all-purpose and 1 cup whole wheat.

1 tablespoon fast-rising active dry yeast
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup hot water (not boiling)
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
oil, for oiling pans
cornmeal, to sprinkle on pan

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups of flour with yeast and salt.
  • Pour hot water and oil into flour mixture and mix well.
  • Mix in remaining flour to make a slightly sticky dough.
  • Form dough into a ball.
  • On a lightly floured surface - or using the dough hook on KitchenAid mixer - knead dough for about five minutes or until smooth and elastic.
  • Cut dough in half; cover and let rest for 10 minutes. To make later, refrigerate the rounds of dough at this point. Bring to room temperature before rolling or stretching.
  • Meanwhile, lightly oil pizza pans or sheets and sprinkle lightly with cornmeal.
  • Roll dough to desired thickness and transfer to pans, or place dough directly on pan and pat and stretch to desired shape and thickness.
  • Let rise for 15 minutes, a little longer if you are making a thick crust.
  • Add toppings.
  • Bake in 450 degree oven for 16 to 18 minutes.

1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup sugar

1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 cup dried cranberries
1/2 cup white chocolate chips
1/2 cup pecans, chopped
2 eggs
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1/2 tablespoon milk

Steps:

  • To make the gift jar: Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt and then spoon into a quart-sized jar with a tight-fitting lid. (I use a wide-mouth funnel to easily get the ingredients into the jar.) Tap the jar gently on the counter top to settle the flour.
  • Combine the sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger and pour over the flour in the jar.
  • Continue the layers with the dried cranberries, then the white chocolate chips and finally the pecans. Put the lid on the jar and decorate as desired.
  • To make bread: Preheat oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9x 5 loaf pan.
  • Pour all the dry ingredient from the jar into a large mixing bowl and stir to combine.
  • In a small bowl, use a fork to beat the eggs lightly and then add the sour cream. Continue mixing with the fork until the sour cream is incorporated.
  • Add the melted butter to the dry ingredients and then add the egg and sour cream mixture. Stir just until combined.
  • Spread into prepared loaf pan and bake in preheated oven for 50 minutes, or until toothpick inserted near center comes out clean.
  • Cool 10 minutes in pan and then turn out onto a cooling rack (with a layer of foil or waxed paper under the rack, to keep your counter clean.).
  • Stir together powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Drizzle or spread over top of loaf. Serve immediately or cool completely before slicing, to keep the slices looking nice.

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water.
  • Let stand until creamy, about 10 minutes.
  • In a large bowl, combine the yeast mixture with the cake mix and 3 cups of the flour; stir to combine.
  • Add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, stirring well after each addition.
  • When the dough has pulled together, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes.
  • Lightly oil a large bowl, place the dough in the bowl and turn to coat with oil.
  • Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume, about 30 minutes.

  • Starting from one of the long sides, roll up the rectangle and cut into 1" wide rolls.
  • Preheat oven to 375F.
  • Grease a 9x13" baking pan.
  • Pour the melted butter into a small bowl and mix the white sugar (and pecans if desired) in another small bowl.
  • Dip the top of each roll in the melted butter, then in the sugar and pecan mixture, then place the topped rolls snugly into the prepared pan.
  • Cover the rolls with a damp cloth and let rise until doubled in volume, about 30 minutes.
  • Bake at 375F for 20 minutes, or until rolls are golden.

  • Place cucumbers, cauliflower, and jalapenos (if using pickled ones) in a mixing bowl.
  • If using fresh jalapenos, place them in a large saucepan with the onions, carrots, celery, pickle juice, sugar, jalapeno brine, chile peppers, garlic, celery seeds, and mustard seed and bring to a boil.
  • Mix hot brine mixture with cucumbers in the mixing bowl, stirring to blend.

  • 1. Take 3 green onions, and cut very fine. In a small bowl mix Hidden Valley Ranch Coleslaw Dressing and mayonnaise together. Add salt, pepper, and green onions. Mix well.
  • 2. Open the bag of coleslaw, and put into a large mixing bowl. Pour the dressing mixture over the top of the coleslaw. Mix well and place into a serving bowl.
  • 3. Chill for several hours before serving. Even great if made the day before. Does not get watery.

These cookies are mixed differently from other cookies (like pie crust) but they are the best. These are the ones I grew up on. At Christmas my mom would add almond extract and green food color then make tree pattern.

2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
¾ cup white sugar
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon baking powder
1 cup shortening
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
½ teaspoon almond extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Mix the flour, sugar, salt and baking powder. Cut the shortening in until it resembles course crumbs.
  • Measure the egg and add enough water to make 1/4 cup, beat together. Add egg and vanilla to crumb mixture; mix well.
  • Put through the cookie press onto cookie sheets. Decorate with sprinkles or colored sugar if desired. Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 10 -12 minutes or until very light brown and set.

This is the easiest cake to make- simply mix all ingredients and bake. It is a never fail recipe. This cake tastes great and never lasts long in my household. It is a light cake that tastes like a sponge. As with all GF cakes it is best eaten on the day of baking

125 g butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 cup self-raising flour, use a gluten free mix
2 tablespoons gluten-free cornstarch (cornflour)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence
1/4 cup milk (can substitute soy milk, lactose free or orange juice)

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients together and use medium speed on mix master to beat for 5 minutes.
  • Line bottom of a greased round cake tin.
  • Pour mixture into tin and bake at 180 degrees for approx 30 minutes.
  • Cool in tin for 5 minutes before turning out.
  • Ice as desired or dust with GF icing sugar.
  • VARIATIONS.
  • Use orange juice and add the zest of one orange in place of the milk.
  • Use lemon juice and zest in place of the milk.
  • Add 1/4 cup of cocoa for a chocolate cake.
  • Make two cakes and sandwich with jam and cream for use as a double sponge birthday cake.

Number Of Ingredients 15

3 teaspoons instant coffee powder
1 tablespoon hot water
1 cup self-rising flour
1/4 cup custard powder
3/4 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
1/3 cup milk
2 eggs
125 g butter
2 teaspoons vanilla essence
30 g butter, melted
3/4 cup icing sugar
1/2 teaspoon honey
1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence
1 teaspoon instant coffee powder
1 tablespoon water

Steps:

  • Dissolve coffee powder in water.
  • Add to a large bowl with remaining ingredients.
  • Mix at a medium speed until smooth.
  • Spread into a greased and paper lined 20cm (8") round cake tin.
  • Bake 200 deg celsius 45 minutes.
  • Stand a few minutes before turning out.
  • When cold spread with Coffee Icing.
  • For the Icing: Combine melted butter with the icing sugar.
  • Add honey, vanilla and combined coffee powder and water.
  • Beat til thick.
