DOUGH:
1-1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon warm water (110° to 115°)
3 tablespoons sugar
1 large egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 to 2-1/4 cups bread flour
FILLING:
1 pound ground beef
1-1/2 cups chopped cabbage
1/2 cup chopped onion
Salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons butter, melted

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in water. Add sugar, egg, salt and 1 cup flour; beat on low for 3 minutes. Add enough remaining flour to form a soft dough. , Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl; turn once to grease top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour. , Meanwhile, in a large skillet, cook beef over medium heat until no longer pink; drain. Add cabbage, onion, salt and pepper. Cover and cook over medium heat for 15 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Stir in cheese. Remove from the heat; set aside to cool. , Punch dough down and divide into 12 pieces. Gently roll out each piece into a 5-in. circle. Top each with about 1/4 cup filling. Fold dough over filling to meet in the center; pinch edges to seal. , Place seam side down on a greased baking sheet. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes. Brush with butter. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.

QUICK AND EASY HAMBURGER BUNS



Quick and Easy Hamburger Buns image

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup warm water
2 tablespoons active dry yeast
3 tablespoons canola oil (or substitute 1/4 cup melted butter)
3 tablespoons sugar
1 egg
1 1⁄2 teaspoons salt
3 -3 1⁄2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons melted butter

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 425°F
  • In a mixing bowl, stir yeast, oil, and sugar into warm water, and allow to stand for 5 minutes, or until mixture is foamy. If the yeast mixture doesn't look foamy after 10 minutes, the yeast is too old and the dough won't rise. Discard and replace with fresh yeast.
  • Whisk in egg and salt.
  • Stir in flour, starting with 3 cups, adding a little more if necessary to form a soft dough.
  • Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  • When dough is elastic and no longer sticky, divide into 12 equal pieces and shape each into a slightly flattened ball.
  • Place 3" apart on greased baking sheets, and allow to rise for 15 minutes, or until the buns have nearly doubled in size.
  • Bake for 8 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Remove buns from pan to wire rack. Brush with melted butter immediately after removing from oven. Allow to cool.

5 cups all-purpose flour
2 (.25 ounce) packages dry yeast
1 cup milk
¾ cup water
½ cup vegetable oil
¼ cup white sugar
1 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Stir together 2 cups flour and the yeast. In a separate bowl, heat milk, water, oil, sugar and salt to lukewarm in microwave. Add all at once to the flour mixture, and beat until smooth, about 3 minutes.
  • Mix in enough flour to make a soft dough, 2 to 3 cups. Mix well. Dust a flat surface with flour, turn dough out onto floured surface, and let rest under bowl for about 10 minutes.
  • Shape dough into 12 slightly flat balls, and place on greased baking sheet to rise until doubled in size.
  • Bake in a preheated 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) oven for 12 to 15 minutes.

Very quick and simple. Nothing is better than fresh hamburger buns. This is a very sticky dough that requires very little kneading.

2 tablespoons fast-rising yeast
¼ cup white sugar
2 cups warm water
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
6 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons salt
1 egg white
2 tablespoons water

Steps:

  • In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let stand until creamy, about 10 minutes.
  • Add oil, 2 cups of flour and the salt; stir well to combine. Add the remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, stirring well after each addition. When the dough has pulled together, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes. Lightly oil a large bowl, place the dough in the bowl and turn to coat with oil. Cover with a damp cloth and let rise in a warm place until doubled in volume, about 40 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and divide into three equal pieces. Divide each big piece into 6 small ones. Form the pieces into rounds. Place the rounds into the prepared pan. Cover the rolls with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let rise until doubled in volume, about 20 minutes.
  • Beat together the egg white and water. Gently brush the risen rolls with the egg wash and then bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 15 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown.

Beef Roll Ups . Delicious tender pieces of beef wrapped around cheese and vegetables and coated in a lovely Balsamic Glaze. A really quick and easy recipe too

8 thin sliced sirloin steaks
2 - 3 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 TBS garlic powder
1 TBS onion powder
1 tbsp olive oil
1 orange red and 1 yellow peppers
1 cup of Gruyere cheese
1 sliced medium onion
2 tsp butter
2 tbsp finely chopped shallots
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
2 tbsp brown sugar
1/4 cup beef broth

Steps:

  • Lay out the sirloin steaks, if they are a little thick, use a meat mallet and bash them a little.
  • Add the seasonings, olive oil and Worcestershire sauce to the meat, (mix into the meat well on both sides) then set aside and prepare the filling.
  • Cut the peppers and onion to matchstick size and set aside.
  • In a pan, melt the butter then add the shallots and cook until translucent.
  • Add the remaining ingredients and stir, bringing it to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat a little and allow the sauce to reduce in volume to half the original amount. As this reduction takes place, you will notice the sauce becomes thicker and a little sticky. Once reduced, transfer to a bowl and set aside.
  • Using the same pan from the sauce, lightly saute the peppers with a drop of olive oil for 1 minute and remove from heat.
  • Lay the rolls flat, then in the centre of each, place the peppers and onion, and divide the cheese between the 8 rolls. Season with salt and pepper if you wish.
  • Roll them tightly then using a toothpick, secure the end so the rolls don't come apart.
  • Heat a large fry pan (you don't need any oil as there is oil on the meat already), and when hot enough, place the beef rolls in the pan, seam side down. As soon as they are sealed (30 - 60 seconds), turn the rolls so they cook on all sides. Medium to rare is the most popular, however, you can cook for a s long or short a time as you like.
  • When done, remove from the heat, place on a plate and allow to rest for a minute or two, and remove the toothpicks.
  • Drizzle the balsamic glaze over the tops as in my photos and serve! Enjoy!

1 (7 g) package active dry yeast
3 1/2 tablespoons sugar
1 3/4 cups unsifted bread flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs, warmed to room temperature and beaten
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 tablespoon peeled chopped fresh gingerroot
2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
3/4 lb ground beef round
2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
2 tablespoons light soy sauce
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper
1 cup finely chopped green onion
1/2 cup chopped roasted sweet red pepper
black sesame seed (optional)
1 large egg
2 tablespoons milk

Steps:

  • Prepare Dough: In small bowl or 1-cup measuring cup, combine water, yeast, and 1/2 tablespoon sugar; stir to dissolve yeast. Let stand until foamy -- about 5 minutes.
  • In medium-size bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups flour, the remaining 3 tablespoons sugar, and the salt; stir in yeast mixture, eggs, and oil, mixing until combined.
  • Turn dough out onto floured surface. Knead dough, adding as much of remaining bread flour as necessary to prevent stickiness, until smooth and elastic -- about 8 minutes.
  • Wash, dry, and oil mixing bowl; place dough in bowl and turn to bring oiled side up. Cover with clean cloth and let dough rise in warm place, away from drafts, until double in size -- about 1 1/2 hours.
  • Meanwhile, prepare Filling: In large skillet, heat oil over medium heat; add gingerroot and sauté 1 minute. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds. Stir in beef, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, paprika, and ground red pepper. Cook until beef browns. Remove from heat and stir in green onions and sweet red pepper. Set aside.
  • Grease 2 baking sheets or line with parchment paper. When dough has doubled, punch down and shape into a 10-inch-long log. With serrated knife, cut log crosswise into ten 1-inch-thick slices. On lightly floured surface, roll out one slice to a 4-inch round. Roll out or press just around the edge of round so that the middle is slightly thicker and the round is 5 inches wide. Fill center of round with 1 heaping tablespoon beef filling; gather up edge to form a pouch and pinch together tightly to seal bun. Turn bun over and gently shape into a ball; place seam side down on greased sheet. Repeat with remaining slices and filling. Cover beef buns with clean cloths or plastic wrap and let rise 30 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare Egg Glaze.
  • Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Brush buns with Egg Glaze and sprinkle, if desired, with sesame seeds. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until well browned. Cool buns on wire rack; serve warm.
  • Egg Glaze: In small bowl, beat together 1 large egg and 2 tablespoons milk until blended; refrigerate when not using.

One of my husband's favorites! My sister gave me the recipe many years ago. Not gourmet by any stretch of the imagination but definately good food!

3/4 lb ground beef
2 tablespoons green peppers
2 tablespoons minced dried onion
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1/4 cup barbecue sauce
1 teaspoon salt
8 ounces crescent roll dough
mozzarella cheese
1 egg yolk

Steps:

  • Cook beef, pepper & onion in skillet over med. heat until brown. Remove from heat and stir in bread crumbs, barbecue sauce and salt. Set aside.
  • Preheat oven to 375º. Separate crescent roll dough in 4 rectangles on lightly floured board. Roll dough in 8x4 rectangle-cut crosswise in half. Place 2 tbsp of meat mixture on each half. Top with some mozzarella. Pull corners of dough toward the center and twist. Pinch to seal. Place buns on greased cookie sheet. Repeat with rest. Makes 8 buns.
  • In small cup, beat egg yolk and 1 tsp water with fork until blended. Brush top of buns.
  • Bake 10-15 minutes or until golden.

EASY QUICK BUNS

These are super easy, super quick buns. I get requests to take them everywhere we go. They are great for those last minute dinner guests, or a nice surprise for breakfast. They freeze well, and make excellent toast. This recipe is a combo of my grandmothers recipe and a few others, all tweaked to make a fast, easy, soft, fluffy bun.

  • Shape dough into 12-15 small balls and place on greased baking sheet to rise until doubled in size. (approx 45 Mins).
  • Bake in preheated 400 degree oven 12-15 minutes.
