Yield 12 bars

Number Of Ingredients 8

6 cups popcorn, crushed
3 cups brown rice, puffed
1 cup roasted unsalted peanut
2 cups pretzels, crushed, plus more for topping
¾ cup honey
1 cup brown sugar
¼ teaspoon kosher salt
¾ cup chocolate chips, divided

Steps:

  • Line a 9x13-inch (22 x 33) cm baking dish with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the popcorn, puffed rice, peanuts, and pretzels.
  • In a small pot over medium-high heat, combine the honey, brown sugar, and salt. Cook until the brown sugar dissolves, stirring frequently to avoid burning, 2-3 minutes. Let the mixture to come to a low boil for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, then remove the pot from the heat.
  • Pour the honey and brown sugar mixture over the popcorn mixture. Using a rubber spatula, stir until the dry ingredients are well coated and beginning to stick together.
  • Once the mixture comes together and has cooled slightly, add ½ cup (85 G) of the chocolate chips, mixing well to incorporate. Some of the chocolate may melt, but that's okay!
  • Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish. Using lightly moistened hands, press the mixture into the baking dish in an even layer.
  • Top with the remaining ¼ cup (40 G) chocolate chips and more pretzels.
  • Set aside in a cool place for 1 hour to set, then cut into 12 bars.
  • Enjoy!

Time 35m

Yield 32

Number Of Ingredients 9

8 cups broken salted pretzels
20 cups popped popcorn
4 cups dry roasted peanuts
3 cups brown sugar
¾ cup light corn syrup
1 ½ cups butter
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Place the pretzels, popcorn and peanuts into a large paper bag or, if you have one, a very large bowl. Set aside.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the brown sugar, corn syrup, and butter. Cook, stirring to melt the butter and dissolve the sugar, until the mixture comes to a boil. Once the mixture is at a full boil, continue to cook for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
  • Remove from the heat, and stir in the salt, vanilla, and baking soda. The mixture will foam up when you add the soda, so use a long spoon to stir. Immediately pour the sugar mixture over the popcorn and pretzels in the bag. Shake until evenly coated. For a crispier treat, boil the sugar mixture longer, or bake the finished mix in the oven at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for about 10 minutes.

CHOCOLATE PRETZEL SQUARES

Chocolate Pretzel Squares image

One of those "Why didn't I think of that?" easy-to-make treats to send in to school or bring to the office. Inexpensive, too! Who doesn't like the taste of salt & chocolate together? The prep time includes the microwave time. Honestly, it takes the longest time just to unwrap the Hershey's Kisses. =^..^=

Categories     Other Snacks

Time 5m

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 bag of thin pretzel squares
some hershey's kisses, unwrapped, one per pretzel square
some plain m & m's, one per pretzel square (you can color-coordinate for the holidays)
ANOTHER GREAT IDEA:
some hershey's hugs white chocolate kisses, unwrapped (instead of the hershey's kisses)

Steps:

  • 1. Place pretzels on a microwavable plate. Place an unwrapped Hershey's kiss on each pretzel square.
  • 2. Microwave for just enough seconds** (see below) to start to melt the chocolate enough that an M & M can be pressed into the top of the Hershey's kiss.
  • 3. **(My microwave takes 47 seconds, then I let them stay on the warm plate for another 30 seconds or so before pressing in the M & M. If the M & M doesn't go down easily, leave it & work on another before coming back to the stubborn M & M.)
  • 4. Only do a few at a time so that the chocolate doesn't have time to harden again.
  • 5. Cool on a cooling rack (or 10 minutes in the freezer) & store in an air-tight container until ready to serve.
  • 6. ANOTHER GREAT IDEA: Use Hershey's Hugs in place of the Hershey's Kisses. The stripes look very festive!
