Originally developed as a substitute for a commercial potato salad seasoning, this is great on salads as well as beef roast, among other things. The beauty of making your own seasonings is that you can adjust the ingredients to suit your taste.

1 tablespoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 tablespoon chicken bouillon powder
1 tablespoon dried parsley
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 tablespoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
1 teaspoon marjoram leaves
1 large bay leaf

Steps:

  • Mix well and grind in spice grinder (we use a dedicated coffee grinder as a spice grinder).
  • Store in airtight container.

2 tablespoons/35 ml salt
1 tablespoon/15 ml sugar
2 tablespoons Watkins Organic Onion Powder
3 & 1/2 teaspoons/17 ml Watkins Organic Ground Mustard powder
1/2 teaspoon/2.5 ml Watkins Organic Garlic Powder
1 teaspoon/5 ml organic ground celery seed
1 tablespoon/15 ml Watkins Organic Ground Black Pepper
1 tablespoon/15 ml Watkins Organic Parsley
1 teaspoon/5 ml organic tarragon
1 teaspoon/5 ml organic horseradish powder (optional)
6 medium potatoes, scrubbed not peeled
3 tablespoons/45 ml white vinegar
2/3 cup/160 ml mayonnaise
2 & 1/2 teaspoons/12 ml Watkins Potato Salad Seasoning

Steps:

  • To prepare the seasoning mix together all ingredients until well blended. Store in an 8 oz (250 ml) glass jar.
  • For potato salad. Boil potatoes in water until just tender; drain and cool.
  • Peel (if desired) and cube or dice potatoes.
  • Add remaining ingredients, toss lightly but thoroughly and allow to marinate for half an hour.
  • Chill salad until serving time.

MIX THE FOLLOWING & GRIND IN A COFFEE GRINDER
1 TBS blk pepper
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp powdered chicken bouillon
1 Tbs dried parsley
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp celery seeds
1 tsp marjoram leaves, dried
1 lg bay leaves, dried
1 tsp dried dill . . . optional

Steps:

  • 1. Mix well and grind in a coffee grinder (I use a dedicated Coffee Grinder as my spice grinder)found mine @ a thrift store
  • 2. store in glass jar with air tight cap NOTE: I usually tripple this recipe as this Recipe Makes one family size Salad. (Makes ONE seasoning per salad). Just to have on hand.

This is potato salad the old-fashioned way, with eggs, celery and relish. It's really good to serve with chili.

5 potatoes
3 eggs
1 cup chopped celery
½ cup chopped onion
½ cup sweet pickle relish
¼ teaspoon garlic salt
¼ teaspoon celery salt
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
ground black pepper to taste
¼ cup mayonnaise

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add potatoes and cook until tender but still firm, about 15 minutes. Drain, cool, peel and chop.
  • Place eggs in a saucepan and cover with cold water. Bring water to a boil; cover, remove from heat, and let eggs stand in hot water for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from hot water, cool, peel and chop.
  • In a large bowl, combine the potatoes, eggs, celery, onion, relish, garlic salt, celery salt, mustard, pepper and mayonnaise. Mix together well and refrigerate until chilled.
