I came up with this beverage to serve at holiday celebrations for a festive twist on the traditional margarita. It's light and refreshing, and looks beautiful with sugar crystals on glass rims. -Mindie Hilton, Susanville, California

4-1/2 cups diet lemon-lime soda, chilled
1-1/2 cups tequila
1-1/2 cups cranberry juice, chilled
1-1/2 cups pomegranate juice, chilled
Pomegranate seeds and frozen cranberries, optional

Steps:

  • In a pitcher, combine the soda, tequila and juices. Serve in chilled glasses. Garnish with pomegranate and cranberries if desired.

Tequila
Orange liqueur (recommended: Cointreau)
Bottled pomegranate juice
Freshly squeezed lime juice
Ice cubes
Salt, optional

Steps:

  • Combine tequila, orange liqueur, pomegranate juice, lime juice, and ice, all to taste, in a blender and blend until smooth. Line rims of glasses with salt, if desired. Divide margaritas among glasses, and serve. To serve margaritas straight up, combine all ingredients, except salt, in a shaker. Strain into glasses and serve.

1/4 cup pomegranate juice, store bought is fine, plus seeds for garnish
1/3 cup Tequila Blanco (about 4 ounces)
1/8 cup Triple Sec (about 1-ounce)
1/4 cup fresh lime juice (about 2 ounces)
12 ounces ice cubes
Margarita salt, optional

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients, except salt, in a blender and pulse until frothy and well combined. Rim glasses with lime juice using a lime wedge then dip in margarita salt, drop some fresh pomegranate seeds in the bottom of the glass and pour margarita mix over the top.

5 1/4 cups pomegranate juice (such as Pom)
1 cup fresh lime juice (from 6 to 8 limes), plus more for rims
3/4 cup tequila
1/3 cup granulated sugar
5 tablespoons Cointreau or Grand Marnier
Coarse salt and turbinado sugar, for rims

Steps:

  • Divide pomegranate juice among three ice-cube trays; freeze until solid, at least 3 hours and up to 1 week.
  • Working in 2 batches, puree juice cubes, lime juice, tequila, granulated sugar, and liqueur in a blender until smooth.
  • Combine equal parts salt and turbinado sugar on a plate; place additional lime juice in a bowl. Dip rims of glasses in juice, then salt mixture. Spoon margaritas into glasses and serve.

2 tablespoons lime juice, (about 2 limes), plus lime wedges, for garnish
1/2 cup white tequila
1/4 cup Triple Sec
1/2 cup pomegranate juice
1/2 cup Habanero Simple Syrup or to taste, recipe follows
Ice
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 habanero chile

Steps:

  • Pour lime juice, tequila, Triple Sec, pomegranate juice and Habanero Simple Syrup into a small pitcher filled with ice and stir well. Pour into ice filled glasses and garnish with lime wedges.;
  • Place sugar and water in a small saucepan and stir to combine. Poke holes in the habanero and add to the saucepan. Bring to a gentle boil over medium-high heat. Reduce heat and simmer until sugar is completely dissolved and syrup is slightly thickened, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. Refrigerate until ready to use.

2 cups pomegranate juice
1/3 cup lime juice
2/3 cup tequila or 2/3 cup clear soda pop
1/4 cup orange-flavored liqueur or 1/4 cup orange juice
2 cups ice cubes

Steps:

  • Pour sugar and water into saucepan; set saucepan over medium heat; stirring until sugar dissolves.
  • Let cool.
  • In a blender, mix the sugar syrup, juices, tequila, liquor, and ice cubes and puree until slushy.
  • Pour into salt rimmed glasses and enjoy!

1/2 cup tequila

  • Freeze pomegranate juice in and ice cube tray for 4 hours, or until the juice is solid.
  • In a blender, add the frozen juice, 1 1/2 cups ice cubes, raspberries, tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and sugar. Blend mixture until smooth.
  • Pour into glasses and serve immediately.
