This traditional layered pea salad recipe has been in our family for decades, and there's a reason it is still one of our all time favorite salads! It's perfect for potlucks or as an easy make-ahead meal. Crisp lettuce and veggies, creamy dressing, zesty cheese and savory bacon combine to make magic in a bowl!

8 oz romaine or iceberg lettuce (chopped)
1/2 green pepper (chopped)
1/2 onion (chopped)
1 bag frozen peas (Do not thaw or cook)
1 1/2 Cup Mayonaise (Use real mayonnaise)
6 hard boiled eggs (peeled and chopped)
8 oz cheddar cheese (shredded)
1 pound bacon (cooked and crumbled)

Steps:

  • Layer your ingredients in a bowl in this order: Chopped lettuce, chopped green peppers, chopped sweet onion, contents of one bag of frozen peas, mayonnaise, hard boiled eggs, cheese, and bacon.
  • Cover bowl with plastic wrap or foil.
  • Refrigerate for at least 18 hours before serving.

I worked at Miller Meats and made all of their salads . I loved this one as it had the swiss cheese instead of cheddar .

1/2 pound(s) bacon fried and crumbled
6 - hard boiled eggs chopped
10 ounce(s) frozen peas
1 - red onion finely chopped
8 ounce(s) swiss cheese cubed small
1 cup(s) miracle whip
1 teaspoon(s) spicey brown mustard
- salt & pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Thaw frozen peas .Fry up your bacon and Boil your eggs . Chop up your onion and cube your cheese . When all is cool and peas thawed place in bowl . In seperate bowl mix the dressing , then add to your ingredients .

1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup sour cream
1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
Coarse salt and freshly ground pepper
1 pound frozen peas (do not thaw)
1/2 small red onion, halved lengthwise and thinly sliced (1/2 cup)
1/4 cup packed fresh flat-leaf parsley leaves
4 ounces bacon (about 4 slices), chopped
2 ounces aged white cheddar, shaved or coarsely grated

Steps:

  • Whisk together mayonnaise, sour cream, and vinegar in a large bowl; season generously with salt and pepper. Fold in peas, onion, and parsley. Refrigerate at least 4 hours.
  • Meanwhile, cook bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until browned and fat is rendered, 8 to 10 minutes. Transfer to paper towels to drain and crisp.
  • Let salad stand at room temperature for 10 minutes. Gently fold in cheddar and bacon just before serving.
