1 cup butter, softened
2 cups granulated sugar
4 eggs, room temperature
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon baking soda
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 pound dates, pitted and chopped
1 pound orange slice candies, chopped
2 cups pecans, chopped
1 1/3 cups shredded coconut
1 cup orange juice
2 cups powdered sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a 10-inch tube pan with butter and dust with flour.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened butter and sugar. Beat at medium speed until light and fluffy, about 4-8 minutes. Add the eggs, 1 at a time, beating after every addition.
  • In a separate bowl, stir in the baking soda and buttermilk until dissolved. Pour it into the butter mixture and combine.
  • Pour the flour into a large bowl. Add dates, orange slices, and nuts and stir to coat. Pour the flour mixture and coconut into the butter mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon until well-combined. The batter will be stiff.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared tube pan. Bake for 2 1/2 to 3 hours or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Towards the last few minutes of baking, prepare the glaze. Stir the orange juice and powdered sugar until the mixture is smooth. Pour the glaze over the hot cake.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan overnight. Flip the cake over a serving plate. Slice and enjoy!

1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)
1 lb orange slice candy, cut up
8 ounces dates, pitted, chopped
2 cups pecans, chopped
3 1/2 ounces coconut, flaked
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 cup orange juice
2 cups confectioners' sugar, sifted

Steps:

  • Sift flour and salt (if using); set aside.
  • Combine orange slice candy, pitted dates, pecans and coconut; set aside.
  • Beat butter until light. While beating, gradually add sugar. Beat eggs, then add to butter and sugar.
  • Combine baking soda and buttermilk.
  • Add milk alternating with flour mixture. Blend well after each addition.
  • Add candy mixture, mixing well.
  • Turn into a 10-inch tube pan that has been greased and floured. Bake for 1 hour and 45 minutes at 300 degrees.

2 cups sugar

1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup buttermilk (well-shaken)
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 pound dates, chopped
1 pound orange slice candies, chopped
2 cups pecans, chopped
1 1/4 cups flaked coconut
1 cup fresh orange juice
2 cups confectioners' sugar

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • Preheat oven to 250 F. Grease and flour a 10-inch tube cake pan .
  • Cream butter and sugar together in a mixing bowl with an electric mixer, until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs, one at a time; beat well after each addition.
  • Dissolve baking soda in buttermilk and add to batter.
  • Place flour in large bowl and add dates, orange slice candy, and nuts. Stir to coat all pieces thoroughly.

  • Carefully invert cake onto a cake plate; slice and serve.

4 eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 pound candy orange slices

2 cups sweetened shredded coconut

1 cup orange candy slices
1-1/2 cups sugar, divided
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup shortening
1-1/2 cups packed brown sugar
2 large eggs, room temperature
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 package (10 to 12 ounces) white baking chips
1 cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Cut each orange slice into 8 pieces. Roll in 1/4 cup sugar; set aside. In a bowl, cream the butter, shortening, brown sugar and remaining sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture. 1 cup margarine or 1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup buttermilk
3 1/2 cups flour
1 cup dates, chopped
1 cup candy orange slices, chopped
2 cups nuts
1 cup flaked coconut
1 cup orange juice
2 cups powdered sugar

Steps:

  • Cream butter & sugar, add eggs (1 at a time) beating after each one.

VERSION ONE:
2 stick butter
2 c sugar
4 eggs
1 + 1/2 c buttermilk
1 tsp baking soda
4 c flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 lb orange jelly candy slices, halved
1 lb dates, chopped (i'll be using craisins instead)
2 c mixed nuts, chopped
1 small can frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
1/2 c light brown sugar, firmly packed
VERSION TWO:
2 c pecans, coarsely chopped
1 lb candy orange slices
1 lb dates, chopped
1 1/2 c coconut
2 stick butter, melted and cooled
4 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 c sugar
2 c flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 c buttermilk

Steps:

  • 1. VERSION ONE: Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs one at a time, beating well. Add 1 cup of buttermilk and beat well. In seperate bowl, mix 1/2 cup buttermilk and baking soda. Add to creamed mixture and combine. In seperate bowl, combine flour and salt. Add to mixture. Add orange slice, and craisins and nuts if desired, and blend. Pour into well greased and floured tube pan. Bake at 275 degrees for 2 and a half hours. In a bowl, add brown sugar to orange juice concentrate and let stand while cake bakes. Pour on cake while hot. Let cake cool in pan before removing.
  • 2. VERSION TWO: in a large bowl, mix all ingredients in this order: pecans, orange slices, dates, coconut, butter, eggs, flour, sugar, soda, buttermilk. Mix well. Pour into greased and floured pan. Bake at 300 degrees for 2 hours. Let cool completely in pan, then serve.
